We have just returned from two days in Matera staying at the Sant'Angelo Hotel and would like to add to the already glowing reports that we also thought it was a wonderful hotel.The family room we were given was extremely spacious, spotless and the beds were so comfortable. Our children loved the idea of staying in a cave and it completely lived up to all our expectations. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious - a buffet of various sweet and savoury home baked delicacies and the staff were absolutely lovely and really helpful. We didn't have a car and were planning to catch a bus down to the station but they insisted on taking us down in their car. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to spend some time in Matera which is also absolutely stunning.

June 2008 - just to offer an assurance to anyone looking to visit Matera and this hotel. All the reviews are spot on. It's still as good as they say and very friendly. Couple of tips. Food, dont expect to be able to get Dinner much before 7:45 pm and one place we tried didn't start serving until 8:30. Visited the Musuem and Art Gallery in town. Kind attendant invited us onto the roof where we got an excellent photo opportunity of the town below. Don't know if this is commonplace and he refused a tip!
