Kempinski Hotel Bristol Berlin - Berlin, Germany     

Ideal location for our first trip to Berlin as it is near shops, an underground station, the main station and strolling areas but...... rooms were very small (amongst the smallest I've ever seen) with the bed taking up most of the room so really no space to walk around at all, dated in appearance as if they needed a very overdue refurbishment and absolutely not the 5 star rating it was given. We have stayed in 5 star hotels and I'd give this 3 stars only. Staff OK but although we had a very late flight home, they would not even listen to any requests for a slightly extended check-out. I was dismissed with a wave of the hand. Can't comment on food as prices looked high so we eat elsewhere and there were good places for all meals close by. Really enjoyed Berlin but I would not stay in this hotel again because of the room size.

Yes, the reviews of other guests are correct. This hotel is definately a mixed bag, all depending on the location of your room. The lobby area is nice, the breakfast buffet (if you get a rate where it is included) is one of the best in the city and the location at the Kudamm really is top-notch. Ah yes, but back to those rooms. We stayed at the Bristol a total of seven nights on two seperate occassions. The first room was terrible. Although we had booked a "superior deluxe" room, wall paper was torn, barely functioning heat and a window where the frame looked like it was rotting. The hotel offered to move us once they could not get the heat to work, and we promply accepted. What a difference a few hundred yards can make. The second room was bright, freshly renovated, and everything you could ask for. On our second stay - same story. First room assigned was sub prime and we immediately asked to move. The second room was great. My suggestion if you stay here: see your room before you check-in. Overall the hotel is a solid B+, it just depends where you get your room ....
