We booked 2 nights in this hotel through Superbreaks. Before explaining our negative points we will say that the rooms themselves are clean but very small. they have been done up in a very contemporary style which is smart and trendy. However, this hotel was sold to us as a 4* hotel. No way would we agree by a long chalk that it was 4*! On our arrival, where first impressions are so important, some of the lettering on the entrance walls had fallen off so the name was unclear -bad sign! The actual hotel entrance was shabby with an entrance carpet which was worn and dirty. Considering the company had advertised this as having ?3.5million of work done we were not impressed. The corridors and internal doors were in an awful state for a 4* hotel. The carpets were stained, dirty and the doors were cheap and damaged, not to mention the walls. There was no view to start with but given the scaffolding around our window we would not have been able to see anything anyway! The manager told us this should have been explained to us by Superbreaks - but this was not! He also mentioned that more work was being done but we had not been told this and surely prices should reflect this? The leisure facilities were small but that was not a problem. However the mould growing on the steps of the pool and in the showers was. The manager explained that the building was 25 years old but mould is not caused by the age of a building! We decided not to stay and, after much amicable discussion with the management, the payment was waived and we went to a different hotel. Had the tarrif been less and more appropriate to the standards then fair enough but why should customers pay 4* rates for much less?
