We booked this hotel as we wanted to go to World Expo ( which by the way is brilliant) and because of the Expo there is not a great deal of choice. The hotel is run down and a bit basic. On the plus side the location is good. You are in the city and can easily walk to the bus stop to get to the Expo and there are loads of restaurants/shops in the area and you are near the old city for sightseeing. This was the most expensive hotel of our holiday ( stayed in 4 other ones ) and the worst. The lift is very old and broke down. The air con is noisy . The bathroom was tiny with an enormous basin that was difficult to get around and the bathrooms are very tired - could to with a re-fit. We found an excellent japanese restaurant in the town - couple of streets away situated at the back of a shop! walk through shop and open door to farily farge restaurant with 2 chefs working on open grills - great fun and good value.

The room was not what I booked, the carpets were filthy, the bathroom and bedroom were probably last decorated in the 1950's. The only power socket for a computer meant unplugging the only table lamp in a very poorly lit bedroom. The single bed was very small and hard. Although I had booked with air conditioning, this was extremely loud and so I used it to cool the room and then turned it off before trying to sleep. The second night I couldn't find the remote control for the A/C. I looked everywhere and eventually called reception to find that I wasn't entitled to a remote control for the A/C unless I deposited 13? at reception. The lift should be avoided as it was very small (lable in the lift says 3 people max, but 2 without cases should be the limit). The reception was small and very unfriendly. As Expo was on this 2 night stay with no food or drink came to over 800?. The bedroom had a modest sized window overlooking the block opposite. The curtains did not draw fully closed but there were metal shutters on the outside that were for closing at night. This still let some light in, in the early hours. There was a mini bar in the room but the door could only be opened a few inches as it was at the foot of the bed. The TV was a very small old portable model. The shower was obviously connected to other rooms and ran hot and cold. The safe in the wardrobe did not have a push button code entry but a very large keyhole. I didn't bother to enquire but I'm sure this would have called for another lump of cash to be left at reception!! The phone was the sort you could buy at Argos for ?3.50 ten years ago and was not even tone dialling, so to dial a number took ages. Reception staff were VERY unhelpful but the main point is that this hotel should be gutted and re-built, then re-staffed before anyone else endures the displeasure of this establishment.
