Location

Selby Abbey (1.5 km / 1 mile) - the 1st monastery to be founded in the North after the Norman Conquest and one of the few in England to have survived as a parish church. It is reputed to be the birthplace in September 1068 of King Henry I of England.

Selby Town Hall (1.6 km / 1 mile) - regarded as being one of the best live venues in the area (as officially recognised by winning the Yorkshire Evening Post's Nightlife Award), with regular performances of music, dance, drama and comedy.

Selby Golf Club (3.5 km / 2 miles) - an 18 hole par 71 'links-style' course, built on sandy soil and located just off the nearby A19.

Stayed at the New Country Inns in Selby while at a wedding of a friend in March 2008. The hotel was very nice, clean and tidy. The room was a good size and everything worked as expected. The room had twin beds, full bathroom, storage space, desk with chair and a good size LCD TV with all freeview digital channels. We ate at the restaurant in the hotel for an evening meal and for breakfast. The food was average, but reasonably priced. The hotel also had a large indoor children's play area which are little girl loved. The staff at the hotel were all very friendly and answered any questions we had as well as giving us directions. For the price it was excellent and I would certainly recommend this hotel highly.
