M Hotel - Ljubljana, Slovenia     

Having read a few reviews about this hotel I was a little anxious as I was responsible for making the booking for a group of 6 friends. Thankfully we all had a great experience of the M Hotel and of Ljubljana as a whole. We travelled via Easyjet and then minibus transfer to the hotel. It is easy to be under-whelmed when approaching the hotel. The airport and the hotel are both to the North of the town so you see nothing of the town itself on arrival. All you see is that the hotel does appear to be in the midst of a number of concrete blocks which appear to be social housing. Don't let this put you off. Some of the builings near the hotel include a supermarket, shops, a small hospital and offices. Yes, there are housing blocks as well but we saw hardly any occupants and NEVER felt threatened during the whole of our stay. The hotel staff (and most of the Slovenians we encountered) are not the jolliest of people. They are not rude, just appear a bit solemn. The hotel check-in was a little slow as there were only 6 of us and we had pre-booked but it was efficient enough. We were given 5 rooms on the 6th floor and my room was on the 5th floor. We had twin rooms for sole occupancy. We all found the beds to be clean and comfortable. The rooms had television, including some english channels, a mini bar (which was not too expensive), a telephone, desk, chairs and air conditioning. TIP: The air con only works if your window is properly shut. That makes sense but even some of my friends struggled with the concept. The bathrooms were all shower rooms and absolutely fine. The shower cubicles were just about adequate in size for one person. The hotel breakfast was included in our booking. The breakfast was buffet style and had a good choice. I agree with an earlier reviewer that the coffee was pretty awful but everything else was good, especially the freshly cooked croissants. We did not have lunch or dinner at the hotel so unable to comment on other meals. There is a small bar area at the front of reception. But, be warned, this closes at 10pm!! We caught the hotel minibus taxi into town once and it cost 5 euros for all 6 of us. There are plenty of taxis available in the town and we never had any refuse to take us to the M Hotel. Depending on the time of day/night the price varied between 6 euros and 12 euros. We walked numerous times to and from town. The hotel is not immediately opposite Tivoli Park, it is about a ten minute walk to the park. We ambled along chatting as we went. The park is very nice indeed with some quite hilly areas. The more energetic of my group went running in the mornings around the park. The park will take you very near to the centre of the town in about 30 minutes at a relaxed pace. The centre is compact and a FANTASTIC place to visit. I will definitely visit Ljubljana again and while I would probably try and get a hotel in the centre if that is not possible I would not hesitate to stay at the M Hotel again.

We were booked into here for a one night stay in Ljubljana before touring the rest of this beautiful country and it was a very poor start to the trip. The double room was very ordinary , and despite asking for a non smoking room , reeked of smoke. The location is poor. It is a 30 minute walk into the centre of town. True you can get a bus or a taxi , but if you are coming to Ljubljana for a short stay ,then get somewhere in the enter of the town. It is located in the middle of a housing estate - you look out onto a communist era housing block for workers. Breakfast was ok , but done on industrial scale, with especially industrial tasting coffee. It's not terrible. It was clean and the room utilitarian , but you could do a lot better if you are coming to this pleasant city
