My husband and I stayed for a week in June, upon arrival we were met by a rude male receptionist, that practically spoke no English. He only gave us our room card key and printout informing us when meat times would be, no other info was given to us about the hotel or its services, we was left to figure it out for ourselves.
He did not even explain which direction the elivators was in or which floor our room was on.
The rooms were clean and you were given fresh towels every day, the soap and shower gel had ran out towards the last few days of the holiday and were not refilled, although we left them on the side of the sink.
We then went back down to reception to get the key for the safe the receptionise just muttered 10 euros then handed over the key.
Meal times, the waiters were pathhetic , they took until halfway through your second course to ask you if you wanted a drink, the used plates were never cleared away untill you had finished you meal.
Th food was a bit hit and miss, it was mostly aimed at the German guests with a lot of English translations on the cards for each dish being totaly wrong.
The hot food was not always that hot just warm sometimes, the food of the grill was quite nice fish, chicken ect. the salad and choice of bread was nice and fresh.
we were given a table in the resturant on the first say and was told that would be out table for the rest of our stay, but it turned out to be a place where people were dumped when the head waiter had no idea to put people.
We turned up at meal times to find people on out table or people had eaten on out table due to the dirty table cloth and lack of knifes/plates/ glasses ect...
Our first night we met 2 English women eating on out table who said it had been happening to them all week and they kept moving around, we complained and all the head waitress could do is shrugg her shoulders.
The thing is that you could not go and sit on another table because that would then be a problem for the other guests.
It was a complete mess all week, but nothing was done about it.
The bar was ok the beer was alright, the bar staff unfortunatley were rude to the English, one night the barman missunderstood my order, when I told him it was the wrong drinks, he was outstandingly rude throwing the incorect drinks down, then storming off constantly muttering to himself in Spanish, he then returned with the right drinks and literally thrust them at me without even glancing in my direction.
There was ment to be table service at night, not once all week did a waiter come over to us and take an order from us, but we did notice that as soon as a German guests sat down they were over to them like a shot! we mentioned this to another English couple (not that there was many of us) and the had noticed the same thing.
We did feel a little "out of place" we felt the hotel was very much aimed at Germans you could tell the staff liked them more than us English, for example they only sold German newspapers, little things like that.
The pool was nice a little cold, but ok once you were in! the loungers were taken up quiet early, the towels were out before breakfast!
To top it all off when we went to check out we handed our room card key and safe key back to the receptionist who said absolutely nothing to us turned away from us and returned with our 10 euro deposit and just gave it to us! then turned away again! we had to ask him where we could store our luggage for the day and all we got was a finger pointing to a room the other side of the loby!
We were gob smacked, how rude can these pepole be?
There are so many more things I could put down but I would be here forever!
All the little things made our holiday less enjoyable we will never go back to this hotel!

We have just returned from this Hotel Sumba, on a family holiday with our three children.
We had adjoining rooms, which were very basic but nice and clean. We stayed Half Board, which I was pleased about as we definitely wanted to get away from the place for a little while each day!
We were literally the only English family there, although we spotted two English couples. Not REALLY a problem, but the staff don't speak English, all signs, menus etc are in German and absolutely everything is geared towards German visitors.
There is a kids club, which my older two joined in with even though they couldn't understand what was being said! There wasn't that many German kids either actually, on the whole it was mostly older people. The Mini Disco was great, and can be followed in any language, of course!
As my oldest had a broken arm, all three of my children mainly stayed in the kids pool. This is nice and shallow and quite warm. The bigger pool is quite cold, but not unpleasantly so and we did use it a little bit. The sea is right on the Hotel's doorstep and the beach was very nice, we had a little visit there most days.
In general, the side of Cala Millor where the Sumba is situated is almost exclusively German. As you venture further, more British pubs etc appear and more English voices can be heard! On the whole, the Germans are quiet and polite though so this wasn't a problem. It was certainly preferable to being woken up by Stag Parties etc! It was just the little things, such as only 2 of the 20 TV channels being in English that started to get a little tiresome.
The food was nice if a little repetitive and definitely aimed at German visitors. The cooked breakfasts were poor, although fresh pancakes were available and these and were lovely. The bar and restaurant staff were not the best, particularly the man who seats you in the restaurant who would insist on trying to squash the five of us onto a table for four when there were bigger tables available. However, when he realised we weren't going to stand for it, he reluctantly allowed us a bigger table! Drinks at the bar are expensive and the entertainment poor, so we ventured a bit further afield after dinner each night.
If you are happy to amuse yourselves for your holiday, the Sumba is clean, well situated and is a good choice. If you want to make friends and be surrounded by people who understand you, it's probably best to stay further towards Cala Bona.
