1.4I stayed here from February 28-March 5, 2008. This was part of a package deal that we booked for a very reasonable price. We had the option to upgrade to a nicer hotel but chose to stay within the original budget of the advertised vacation.
The Good:
We arrived at 10am so expected not to be allowed in our room (as previous guests mentioned) but we were very grateful to be given our room without any problems.
There was always only one person working the front desk and she was often overwhelmed with the large groups of people who were either arriving or checking out. While the staff would never win an award for hospitality, they were polite and efficient.
While the room was small, it was certainly adequate. There is a separate room for the toilet. The shower was very small, the water pressure and temperature was great, even in the mornings with the highest usage.
The two single beds pushed together was actually quite comfortable, dispite how cheap they looked. There was a nice comforter which kept us very warm.
The room was well heated (sometimes too over heated).
The hot and cold breakfast was plentiful and well stocked. We got tired of it though after the first few days and started eating in town. There were some unusual items, which I never could figure out what they were.
The walk to the metro was about 10 minutes and we actually enjoyed the walk. We would walk right pass the Billa Supermarket and take out our daily cash from the ATM machine right out front on the way to the metro, which was very convenient.
The 10 minute ride to town center was also no problem.
Sometimes we would see a security gaurd in the lobby and this made us feel better, although it also made me concerned that there have been some problems here.
The Bad:
The smell of smoke in this hotel is REALLY bad...especially in the main lobby. There was always a group of students or other tour groups, sitting in the lobby smoking...you could just see the film of smoke in the air.
Although I had mentioned that the size of the room was adequate, there were a few down sides. The sheets, although clean, were very thin. You would receive 2 clean bath towels and 2 clean hand towels daily (no wash cloths). These towels were very small and thin. There was one small bar of soap and small bottle of shampoo when you first arrived but it was never restocked. I would suggest you bring your own soap/shampoo supply or buy them at the Billa Supermarket. You are, however, restocked with 2 rolls of very thin, harsh toilet paper daily. We bought our own toilet paper and box of tissue for the room for our won comfort. Also, the website mentions that the room is provided with a hair dryer....not! I asked the front desk about this and was told that they would provide one to me, if I wanted to put down a 20 euro deposit (I could never figure out why she said euro instead of a CzK amonut). Also, we were fortunate to be put on a floor that did not have students or other large tour groups, so it was fairly quiet, however, the walls are very thin and we could hear people talking in the hallways on occasion, late into the night sometimes.
Although this hotel has free internet, it is sooooooo slow that we decided not to waste our time and used the internet places in town. You must also take note that their keyboard is very different from the USA. We could not figure out how to find the "@" sign on the keyboard and after about 15 minutes had to ask someone. Who would have known that you need to hit "alt" and the numbers 6 and 4... After attempting to send emails that never seemed to go through, we gave up!
The Ugly:
The building is definitely ugly...cement block with an ugly view.
Having said all that, the price was right for this particular vacatiion and we would probably stay here again if we wanted to stay within this price range.
