Hotel Petr address: Drtinova 17, Prague, 15000

Hotel Petr details: Located in a quiet part of District 5 in Prague, this hotel is in a walking distance from the city centre.

Metro or tram will take you to famous locations such as the majestic Charles Bridge, a real must-see. Take time to stroll through the streets of this charming capital city, and try local cuisine in one of the many bars and cafes.

Visit the shops around Wenceslas Square, and the Astronomical Clock in the Old Town Square. Seeing all of Prague, including the castle area, should be easy enough with the city's good transport connections. Just two tram stops and you will be at the National Theatre.

Close to the gardens at Kinskeho Zahrada, and left of the Vltava River, you are in the heart of Prague, but away from the main tourist crowds.

I stayed at the Hotel Petr from May 10th to May 17th. I had contacted the hotel ahead of time and they sent a driver to pick me and my wife up for about 600kc or roughly $30 US. The driver was friendly and holding a sign with my name on it. He loaded our luggage and drove to the hotel telling us interesting facts and tidbits about Prague. Upon arriving, we found out our room was ready before checkin time and we were shown to our room which was larger than I anticpated for a small hotel in Europe. There was a bed, TV stand, couch and a desk with a chair, a large bathroom with shower only and a small entrance area with several closets and a safe. The lobby was clean, and since the hotel does allow smoking almost everywhere in the hotel it did smell like cigarettes, but I found that in Prague most places have smoking everywhere so it is common. The front desk sold a variety of crystal, maps, beer, wine, and other convenience items and offered to book concerts tours etc. The staff was very helpful and polite and spoke good english. There is also a small bar area to have a drink in, but it is not a full service bar, you just pay the front desk and drink. In the bar area there is a computer that you can use to check your email. They set up a breakfast buffet in the morning I believe from 7am to 10am. There is juice, coffee, water, cold cuts, cheese, fresh bread, cereal and fruit. It is not an American style breakfast with eggs and cooked meat etc. The food was tasty and a good start to the day. The hotel is staffed 24 hours a day and you have to be buzzed in by the front desk to get into the hotel. The hotel is located in the Smichov district which appeared to be a working class neighborhood. The closest hotel I saw was Kinsky Gardens. Other than that there are small local shops and plenty of bars and pubs as well as a huge shopping mall with a Tesco (like a walmart) that is convenient for picking up things you forgot to bring. It was about a 5 minute tram ride or a 10 minute walk to get to the touristy areas, and it appeared to be a safe area as well.
