Location

City Centre, Old Town

Prague is quite simply one of the most stunning cities in Europe, a UNESCO World Heritage listed gem much eulogised as the ‘City of a Thousand Spires’ and countless other clichés. The Czech capital has become the archetypal post-communist city success story with seemingly not a month going by without a travel pundit or writer conjuring up another city as the ‘New Prague’. Not that there is anything wrong with the old Prague, a city that more than justifies the lavish praise heaped on it.

I had booked a bargain at another hotel through a Prague based agency and had also booked airport transfers with them. The airpoirt transfer went without a hitch until we got to the hotel I'd booked. Bearing in mind we arrived on Boxing Day, the hotel we had booked explained that they'd only received our booking 3 days before and, as they were very small, they were fully booked. They explained that they (and not the agency!) had found us another 4* hotel just around the corner. Seemingly we were not the only ones they had done this for. Originally we were disappointed but when we got to the Appia Residences, we were pleasantly surprised! It wasn't as quirky as the one we had originally booked but the room was large, warm, luxuriously furnished and the hotel was in a great location. Plus the bed was huge and comforatable and the room was spotless. We had a few issues with the door (the draught proofing had come out of its slot but we got it back in) and the reception staff, who were very helpful, gave us very knowing looks as it is possible it wasn't terribly soundproof and our room was right over reception. The breakfast was more than adequate, good coffee, large selection of cold buffet (cereal, bread, cheese, meat etc) and a hot selection too. All in all we were more than happy with the hotel we hadn't booked, I would recommend it and would consider going back there again when we go back to Prague.

We have just spent a long weekend at The Appia Residences in Prague. We were delighted with the hotel - a beautiful large suite with seperate lounge and dining area (with hob, fridge, tea/coffee making facilities) a bathroom and terrace. The breakfast served at the hotel has a good selection (fruit, cereal, yoghurts, eggs and bacon, cold meats, cheeses etc). and served in a lovely room on the top floor with beatiful wooden beams and character. The staff are really helpful. It's a really quiet and relaxing place. There is a bar in the hotel - but to be honest we never saw anyone in there, so people may find this disappointing. However there is little need for a bar as within just a few minutes there is a good choice of bars and restaurants in the local area. The area is great - Malastrana - away from the hustle and bustle of the New Town but still really close to Charles Bridge and Prague Castle and with plenty of choice to eat in the evening. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and if visiting Prague again would book.
