Having booked flights before checking hotel availability I was worried about going to the u kocku after reading reviews on Trip Advisor. My worries were unfounded, the staff were helpful and polite, their english though not brilliant was perfectly adequate. Our room was very nice - large and clean. I agree the rooms are warm and I don't think would be VERY comfortable in the summer months but we slept with the window open and after about midnight did not find the street any noisier than any other city we have stayed in. Given the position of the hotel - right in the old town - 2 minutes from old town square and 5 minutes from Charles Bridge you can't expect peace and quiet. I would say don't stay here if you like to go to bed at 10pm for 12 hours of uninterupted dreaming (!!!). The breakfast was more than adequate and the coffee is now HOT (see previous reviews of this hotel).. We only ate in the hotel on our last evening before leaving for the airport and the Pizza was fine. The restaurant was quite busy most nights when we passed or popped in to change etc. I would definitely say give this hotel a chance the central location is such an advantage that it's well worth considering.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel in late June 2007. I was attending a conference in Prague, and the hotel was one in a list associated with the conference and giving a special price to conference attendees. We therefore got a reduced price. Even so, the hotel was expensive for what was provided. The hotel is in an old palace (in the sense of an urban Italian palazzo sandwiched among other buildings, not in the sense of the Versailles). Our room was in fact a sort of suite with one gigantic bedroom, an anteroom that had a single bed in it, an entrance hall, and two bathrooms, one with only a toilet and a sink and the other with a sink and a bathtub. The tub had a handheld shower but no overhead shower. There was no air conditioning, so we had to open the windows for ventilation, which let the street noise in. The noise wasn't too terrible because the street was very narrow and apparently closed to motor vehicles except those owned by residents. However, with the windows open, we had reduced privacy because some neighboring buildings were taller than ours and had windows that looked into our room. By careful placement of the curtains, we could prevent outsiders from seeing our bed, but there was no way to shield views into other parts of the room (e.g., the door when going to the bathroom) unless the curtains were closed completely, which then blocked most of the ventilation. The price of the room included a breakfast that was a little more than a continental breakfast but not much. The quality of the breakfast was low. It was all edible and sanitary, but there was nothing tasty. There were the obligatory cornflakes, some routine jams, scrambled eggs, a few cold cuts and one or two cheeses of no special quality. Quantities were good. For a hotel of this price, the breakfast was grossly inadequate and didn't compare to what we got at several much cheaper places in Turkey. We did not eat any other meals in the hotel restaurant. The hotel is in the old city, only a couple blocks from the Charles Bridge, and so is very convenient to most sights. The staff was polite but not what anyone would call friendly. The check-in clerks were rather stiff and unimaginative in helping guests. Except for the location, which is outstanding, the hotel is definitely not worth the price. I felt that even our convention rate was excessive for what we got.
