3We are a french couple in our mid thirties. We stayed at the hotel Letna for four nights in May 2008, in a superior double room.
The hotel is ok but we would not recommend it to family and friends.
The hotel does have good points: the room was large, clean and recently decorated. It was quiet, and we were not disturbed by noise from the street or from other guests. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful (but nothing special), and the reception staff were friendly in an understated kind of way.
It was relatively straight forward to get to the hotel from the airport (40 mins by public transport), and we really enjoyed the walk from the hotel through Letna Park into town, or across the same park to the Summer Palace and to the castle (great views!). The nearby Pizzeria was also excellent.
On the downside, our beds were only made once, and the bathroom was not cleaned at all during our four-day stay! There seems to have been a water infiltration problem in the bathroom and there was a large patch of multicoloured mould above the shower.
There were no shutters on the windows, and the curtains let in so much light that we were woken up at 5 am every morning by light flooding into the room.
For hygiene reasons, we would also have preferred a room without carpet.
Although the reception staff were as helpful as limited English would allow, it was difficult to get advice as to where the best local restaurants were, or which museums they personally would recommend, which was a shame.
Note that until end of June 2008, roadworks mean that the tram service from Hradcanska to Sparta is replaced temporarily by a shuttle bus (X1).
To finish with a couple of sight-seeing recommendations, we really liked the Mucha exhibition (though the 30 minute video is only in English). The view of the castle from Charles Bridge at night is very pretty. The climb up the 287 stairs of the St Guy Cathedral is worth every step. If you only do the 'short tour' of the castle, the audioguide is a not worth it (300 Crowns and not very interesting) - you're better off with a good guide book.
