OK, but we encountered a problemPosted: Sat, Jul 07 2007Location:

2This hotel is perfectly situated for exploring Prague. The No X18 bus stops right outside the hotel, and this takes you to the centre, or drops you at a tram stop so you can head off in another direction. It's also within easy walking distance of the river, and once there you can follow the road all the way up to Charles Bridge. The room was comfortable, but very hot - even with all the windows open there wasn't any air circulating round the room at all which I found uncomfortable in the June heat - fan's or air con wouldn't go amiss. Breakfast is in the lovely downstairs restaurant - which is air conditioned but also attracts flies on the the uncovered food! These are only minor inconveniences though, and overall our stay was enjoyable. However, we encountered a real major problem with the towels in our room. On day 1 of our stay, we had been out sightseeing all day and arrived back at our room late in the afternoon for a short rest, shower and then out for the evening. We hadn't been in the room 5 mins when the maid tried to enter to clean up! We told her to leave it, but couldn't undersstand why it had not been done in the day, especially as it was really quiet in the hotel. On day 2, again we went out during the day and arrived back late afternoon for a rest and shower - only there weren't any towels in the room. I rang down to reception, who questioned me and asked me If I was sure (?), and then said she would ring me back. She did, then asked me again if I was sure that there weren't any towels in the room, and I replied I was absolutely certain. I went to reception to collect the clean towels, only to be questioned again about the absence of the dirty towels - it was all very bizzare. On the day we were leaving, we got up, had a shower, went for breakfast, packed up and then checked out. We left our luggage in the hotel left luggage room as we had an hour to kill before our taxi picked us up. On arrival back at reception, the receptionist approached me with a handtowel and asked me where our towels were. I explained that the towels were in the room where we had left them, but the towels from the previous day had been taken by the maid and not replaced. The maid was stood there shaking her head and shrugging her shoulders, and that's when I lost it! I told them that they could search my case, and even call the police as I was not being branded a thief by anyone, the receptionist was very quick to calm me down and tell me she believed me,. and that she didn't need to search my case or take any other action. I was furious though - i wouldn't have minded if the towels were worth taking, but they were only cheap scratchy one's that can be found in any hotel. This incident soured our stay, and I felt that it was almost 'staged' to try and get us to pay for them or something. Especially as they weren't willing to take a look for them, or even involve the police if they thought we had stolen them. Please be warned about this, as you are asked to leave your hotel keys in reception when not in the building, so any one of the hotel staff can have access to your room. It was such a shame that our stay ended in this way, as overall the hotel was really nice and most of the staff were very friendly. If it hadn't have been for this incident, I would have stayed here again on my return in October.
