Santini Residence - Prague, Czech Republic 

Check the price - no pun intended

Stayed at Santini Residence in May. On the plus side, I thought the location was excellent, room was pretty good, air con worked well (and quietly), healthy breakfast reasonable (not the cooked), staff friendly and helpful, ditto pick up from airport. On the negative side, was the price and what I regard as sharp practice in this regard. I booked through booking.com and was quoted a price in euros. I was not quoted a price in Czech crowns. I received an email from the hotel confirming the booking. When I read it the day before leaving it said "Please be infomed that EURO prices have an informative status. Invoice payable in CZK only". Hmm. What does that mean? It means that when you go to settle up with the Hotel they multiply the euro quotation by an arbitrary amount of czech crowns (in my case if memory serves 26 crowns to the euro). It is a rate you won't exchange your money for either using your credit card or the bank machines. It means that what you have been quoted is not what you pay. My bill was in fact roughly 50 euro more expensive than I had been quoted. Not a lot in the grand scheme of things. But still. Quote me in euro and let me pay in euro. Or quote me in Czech crowns and that's what I'll pay. But don't quote me in euro, make me pay in Czech crowns and adopt an arbitrary mulitiplier. Of course i should have read all this when making the booking!

A gem

We stayed in this lovely hotel, in surely the nicest part of Prague, to celebrate our 60th birthdays. We thoroughly recommend it. Not only was it very beautiful (our room was lovely) but the staff were so friendly and helpful. A lovely breakfast was served each day in our room and staff seemed genuinely pleased we were there. This made our stay in this wonderful city even more special. We can unreservedly recommend this hotel.

ok but not perfect

This guesthouse is in a great location, easy to walk to all the main attractions. The rooms are lovely, clean and the staff are attentive. However the cooked breakfast should be avoided and so too the restaurant, much better food elsewhere. The lighting is not at all romantic so avoid the candlelight dinner if offered. There was also confusion as to the keycards for the rooms which kept failing to operate properly. I also advise you to check your bill to see if it is the same price as booked!! This hotel/residence as lots going for it but has room to improve.
