Avoid like the plague, if you want any sleep!

We stayed at this hotel for four nights. Having read the reviews on this site, I specifically asked, at the time of booking, for a rear room so as to avoid the noise. When we got there, we discovered on opening the room door that we had got a front room - as soon as the door opened, all you could hear was racket from the street. We thought we would see how it went for the first night. Unfortunately, for that night and the other three, we barely got a wink of sleep. Drunks, traffic, roadworks (every morning, including sunday, from before 6am) - the window was triple glazed and we were on the 7th floor, but the noise was unbearable. The room was also like daylight because of a huge floodlit sign across the street and no curtains on our window. We complained but the receptionist couldnt have cared less, she told us they were full and the only available room was a twin (hardly ideal for a romantic break) and we would have to pay more. We refused, and so were stuck with no sleep for the entire duration of our stay. While we were complaining, another guest came down to complain for the same reason. Receptionist was just surly, rude and uninterested. Some others here have said, ask for a rear room and youll be ok - but dont trust the hotel to bother taking any notice of your request. The room was ok, clean and nice enough, though certainly not worth the almost £100 a night we paid. Avoid.

Firstly we were charged a different price from that which we were originally quoted, an extra 25 Euro for currency conversion. Also we were lead to believe that the fitness center was part of the package but was actually 8 Euro extra per person per day. The accommodation was only average and very noisy at night, much nicer hotels down around old town square. Finally the staff were very unhelpful and abrupt.

You cannot argue with the location - its brilliant - and the building (though it looks like a 1060's functionalist horror was designed back in the 20s so a bit of architeural history. don't be too put off by the entrance which is grim - the lifts take you to the receptioin on 4th floor where things get better. As a business traveller trying to get away from big hotels this wasn't really up to scratch - tiny weeny bath foam in sachets belong in motels (especially at a time when travelling by plane with hand luggage makes carrying liquids a pain!) and the fact that you can't keep the light out was really annoying (or would have been without the trusty face mask) and the earplugs are needed at the front - no doubt about it. I think this may be a central European thing though as my warsaw landlord can't understand why i'd like a bedroom that can be kept dark for lie ins. The little kitchen are would be great for many though and the room , although for some weird reason as single, had not only a large single bed but also a table with 4 chairs. so you've got everything for a live in stay if you wanted to indulge yourself at Albert supermarket just over the road. The pool is being refurbished they tell me - the front desk staff were fine but again, not what I thought for this standard hotel. but as they say, location location location - and as long as you get a back room I'd put this on my list for a (non-romantic) weekend.
