Truly Self Service

We were allocated a room overlooking Wenceslas Square which was extremely noisy with people shouting and generally making lots of noise until 5:00am when we managed to fall asleep, This was a Monday night so God knows what it must be like on a weekend. At 7:00am the road works outside the hotel started up and I was at the reception desk by 7:15am requesting a move. The receptionist was very good and arranged another room for us at the back of the hotel, much better. The rooms are clean and well maintained but the big downfall in this establishment is the breakfast. The food is average but organization in the breakfast room is non existent and certainly lives up to it's self service billing. You have to help yourself to plates, cups, saucers, glasses and cutlery if you are actually lucky enough to find any. Everyone was complaining and becoming very frustrated. The hotel location is good and you can walk anywhere as long as youre reasonably fit but beware the noise, make sure youre at the back of the hotel!

Stayed at Hotel Adria for 7 nights ending August 16th. I have mixed feeling sbout this Hotel. Frist the good. - Location is excellent and the rooms while a bit on the small side are OK and my room was quiet. - Room safe is large enough to hold a decent size notebook computer. - Internet price is 100 Krone per hour of continuous use. THere is a place for 1 krone ( 10 minute miniumum) a minute located 2 or 3 blocks away toward the National museum on the same side of the street. Thats the cheapest place I found. - My maid was nice , did a great job cleaning my room and always had a nice smile. - One of the gals at the front desk, usually in the evenings, I think her name was Lenka ( with cute glasses) was very competent, helpfull and just plain nice. Too bad she was the exception. Now the BAD - TV in room only received about 6 channels of which only ONE was in English which was the BBC news. You would think they would have more of a selection. VERY BORING ! - My room only had a shower, no tub. - I was not impressed at all with the quality and training level of the staff. For example.. I ask if they knew of a gym that was nearby and they said yes and gave me the name. Knowing that I was a tourist you would think they would instinctively tell me where it was.. but no.. I had to ask. Maybe its just the lame attitude of Czech people toward foreigners. I was in the World Fitness Center next door and asked what the daily rate was... and was told 500 krone.. which is ridiculous even by NYC standards. I later find out from the Front desk folks at Adria that they have a special deal with the World Fitness Center for 280 Krone a day. You would think that the sales person at World Fitness would have asked me what hotel I was staying at since they apararently have cut discount deals with many of the hotels.. but NO. - The breakfast was OK. Decent cereal selection with 4 different types of granola type cereals and corn flakes. Scambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, mixed veggies, saugages, some bread and cake and a small sald bar. My main complaint is that besides the addition of bananas and apricots on day 6 and 7 .. they served the SAME menu every single day for 7 days. After day 4 breakfast was NOT appetizing and was bordering on naseatingj. Hey... Mr. Mamager, if your listening how about being just a little creative? Atleast you'd think they could rotate different hot dishes every other day.. but no.. the chef, if they have one, is simply OUT TO LUNCH ,when it comes to the breakfast menu. - If you expect to get WAKE UP CALLS or MESSAGES in your room FORGET IT !! This place has an outdated phone system. ALL wake-up calls are not manually and well and message slipped under the door. They have no voice mail system for callers to leave messages or computer generated wake up calls. Their incompteent staff does this job.. if they can remember. The Adria staff missed 3 wake up calls in including my 7:15 wake up call to go to the airport !!! Luckily I knew I what I was dealing with and set the alarm in my cellphone as a backup.. and thank god I did that !! Bottom line... BRING AN ALARM CLOCK !!! - Security is non-exsistent at night with no one at all at the front door or standing in the lobby. Front desk person is usually hiding in the back office. I do however want to point out that I never felt threatened and always felt 100% safe everywhere in Prague. Would I stay here again... probably not.

This is very good example of the worst of the new breed of flashy hotels in the "new" Europe. It is a four star hotel, but is really not much more than a glossy bed-factory, with very little atmosphere and poor customer service. It is also very expensive compared to other options in Prague. Some minus points: very small room, overheated with no ventilation at all; awful buffet breakfast, poor choice and poor quality; heart-stoppingly expensive mini-bar (£4 for a half-litre bottle of mineral water!); poor standard of house-keeping (beds unmade); un-helpful staff, especially at the Reception, unfriendly and inefficient; very expensive internet access (which in a hotel of this kind, should be free!); great if you like being accosted by a masseuse in the lobby late at night! Some plus points (not many): central location (although I would not choose to stay in Wenceslas Square again, as it is too noisy and constantly busy); rooms were very quiet. There are many similar category hotels in Prague now, and many smaller establishments which offer a better level of comfort and value and are equally well-located.

I have recently returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel. I was very happy although there are some things to highlight. This hotel is situated in the heart of Prague - Wenceslas Square. Would probably compare this area like Leicester Square or Oxford Street London. At night this sqare is packed with locals and tourists and there is always a Police presence which i was glad to see. The Square is very clean despite a few tramps begging for money. You would get that anywhere. The hotel is very clean and well presented and the hotel staff frendly. A nights stay at this hotel is about £179.00. My room was on the second floor and my window was facing a brick wall. Overall you pay for the location not the hotel. Most of the rooms are like this unless you get one of the few rooms facing the square. My room was tidy, had air con, safe and fridge. Lovely bathroom but the shower was one that was attached to the bath. The fridge was stocked with small bottles of alcohol and wine and some chocolate. Be aware this is not free. The TV programmes were rubbish. Two hardcore adult channels available for about £10.00 a night. The safe is free but there is no complimentary tea or cofee like you get in our country. The breakfast choice in the morning is lovely. Lots of variety to meet all needs. You will have to ask for the coffee. Tea weak. The centre of prague is lovely. Lots for everyone. Lots of bars and clubs open at night. However be aware this if the capital "stag trip"of the world. In most of the clubs and pubs you will be hounded by women offering thier personal services. They dont give up (please be careful and be mindful of STD's). During the day lots of religious and beatiful sites to look at including the Charles Bridge, cathedral and Castle. A must to visit. Overall always take the local currency. Be aware some businesses will try and rip you off with their hidden charges. Please feel free to email me if need be.
