Hotel Hoffmeister address: Pod Bruskou 7, Prague, 11800

Hotel Hoffmeister details: The 17th century centre of Prague with its swirl of Baroque and Romanesque architecture has been declared a UNESCO heritage site. Within this square mile of civic treasure resides Hotel Hoffmeister, inspired by Adolf Hoffmeister (1902 - 1973), writer, artist, bon vivant, and created by his son Martin.

Set at the foot of the Old Castle, close to the city’s many historical landmarks, this family owned and operated hotel features an art gallery of Adolf Hoffmeister’s paintings and a remarkable collection of caricatures depicting the creme de la creme of the world’s artistic community. The artist’s portfolio includes many of his famous friends - Franz Kafka, Milan Kundera, Salvador Dali, Picasso and Andy Warhol, to name a few.

Besides art, there is an easy grace and modernity to Martin’s hotel. It is internationally recognised with an award-winning restaurant, garden terrace, bar, wine cellar, vinotheque and every comfort of our age. This summer, a wellness spa was opened, offering a wide range of therapies and beauty treatments. Hotel Hoffmeister is a true reflection of the virtues of hospitality and excellence for which Adolf Hoffmeister was well loved in his lifetime.

Stayed in the hotel Aug,31-Sep,5/2007. The location is great – close to everything: Prague Castle – 10 mins, Charles Bridge – 20 mins, subway/tram – 3 mins. A very nice and cozy place with a touch of good taste and elegance. Many artworks of A.Hoffmeister are the real masterpieces. A very good breakfast – salmon, fried eggs, cereals, lots of fruits and vegetables, cheeses, meats, pastries, even Champaign. The hotel staff was very helpful. The tip: if you'll book a cab to/from airport through the hotel it will cost you 800 c.s (~$40), the AAA (has nothing to do with the American Auto – just the name of a cab company) will charge you 400 c.s. The beer in the bar is overpriced, bust tastes great!

Having previously stayed at the Savoy in Prague, we thought we'd have a change. The hotel is good for tram connection to almost anywhere. The rooms are lovely with jacuzzi and basically all mod.cons. However, apart from the restaurant manager, a couple of delightfully helpful waitresses, one male receptionist and the sommelier the hotel staff were not helpful and actually were quite rude and indifferent. A complete contrast to the Savoy. Food in evenings could be classed as sensational - beautifully presented. Breakfast O.K. but not outstanding. Spa and spa staff professional and very helpful. The hotel is situated by a very busy road (the price you pay to be nearer the centre) but the noise of traffic whilst eating and trying to sleep(albeit with the windows open which we did not HAVE to do as there was air-con) was phenomenal. Police cars etc. make one hell of a noise as do the continual traffic and trams. We would definitely return to eat in the ADA restaurant but would prefer not to stay. Trying the Aria and Alchymist next - watch this space!
