Delightfully welcoming receptionist who knew who we were before we told her, we had booked for three adults in two rooms online and they got the rooms the right way round as well! Our room was small and dinky, lovely decor, but no wardrobe, just five hangers in the shape of a mobile, quite fun for one night but it would be cramped for a longer visit. It is a 20-minute stroll to the old town along the seafront, just the right amount after driving from Southern Brittany. We were able to explore the ramparts of the walled city come back along the harbour and change before returning for the evening. Although the hotel has 60 parking places they were all occupied the afternoon we arrived (they had people staying for a conference nearby) but the hotel found us space on the road until we were able to park in the square outside the hotel later on. I would guess parking in the walled city would be difficult and costly. The beds were big and comfortable and the breakfast served downstairs was delightful with a good choice of French style buffet. The Aubade was an ideal end to our holiday before getting a ferry back to Portsmouth at 10.30 next morning. Do walk the city ramparts if you can at sunset, this is very beautiful. By the way, there is a little restaurant right next door to the hotel, we were tempted to try it, but the evening was warm so we decided to walk back to try one of the many restaurants in the walled city, and we weren’t disappointed!
