The Durley Dean Hotel - Bournemouth, United Kingdom     

The hotel just did not live up to the website or glossy brochures. We found it to be a 3* hotel with a 1* standard. Have been to better, much cheaper B&B's! The decor was tired and extremely shabby. We were shown 4 rooms before we found something that was remotely acceptable. The only reason we did not walk out and find elsewhere what the shortage of time we had for our visit. We would not recommend that anyone waste their time in this hovel, it is dusty, grubby with torn upholstery on furniture and stains on the carpets. There is evidence of dry rot in a good deal of the woodwork and mildew around windows. I would not visit again even if THEY paid ME!

The Durley Dean is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. We booked for two nights but left after one. The only positive is that we were given a full refund for both nights when we complained. Firstly we were given a double room which was nowhere near big enough for a double. The window did not shut properly, and the room was dirty. When we complained, we were moved to a bigger room, which did appear cleaner. However, the decor was dated and the bed was the most uncomfortable we've ever stayed in. During the night (around 2am) there was unacceptable noise outside our room which went on for over an hour, and included fighting. Hotel staff did nothing to stop this. Breakfast was lukewarm and of a poor standard. This hotel is in a nice location, so it is a bitter shame that it is so dissapointing.
