The Bentley Hotel - Motherwell, United Kingdom     

The Bentley Hotel is a very pleasant hotel typical of an old manor home. However the mattress (reasonably new by the look of it) in the room we stayed in at the front of the hotel was so uncomfortable it was almost impossible to sleep. I mean seriously uncomfortable. The bedding (blankets were old) was not up to the standard expected in most hotels in the UK. The staff are extremely pleasant and restaurant excellent, location great. I would not consider staying there again unless I was assured that the mattresses have been replaced with a quality mattress.

I stayed here in November as part of a larger group. The outside of the hotel looked fine from the outside, but on closer inspection, we got the impression that it only opened to accommodate us. The steps needed swept, there were fag butts and leaves on the steps and in the hall. The stairs to the rooms were badly in need of a vacumn cleaner. I was in a single room at the top of the hotel, the mattress was so lumpy ( I could feel every spring) that I asked to have it changed. The radiators needed bled and after complaint, the receptionist gave me a heater to plug in. Beds were clean but towels not changed in the duration of my stay which was 3 days. The breakfast was slow to be served and unappetising. However, the staff were helpful and pleasant. The hotel is convenient to both the railway station and the bus routes. A 3 star hotel this is, but that is no excuse for not keeping it clean. Good base if you're not fussy about where you lay your head. Also, take your own toilet roll. I had half a roll in the bathroom but it was very thin.
