Sun Hall Hotel - Larnaca, Cyprus     

Foul hotel! How it’s getting 4 stars I’ll never know. Was it inspected when it was, indeed, a “modern” hotel, way back in the 70’s?? It’s shabby, lazy and nasty. The toilet with the “disinfected” paper sign on it when we went into our room says it all. Lift the lid and the inside lid and seat are stained yellow. If you’re happy not to look to closely or think too hard about this hotel, it’s for you. We had been booked for 10 nights at 120 euros a night. We lasted 4, before insisting on being moved, along the coast to the Lordos Beach Resort, a comfortable, spotlessly clean family room, which was CHEAPER than the Sun Hall. Breakfast was unappealing, the dining hall depressing and scruffy. We went down once, juice had run out, no sign of refill, tea was stewed, it was just nasty! The staff couldn’t give a damn. How has this place has managed to keep going in this market place? It needs one of those deep cleans they are doing to hospitals now, a total refurb and redecoration. Personally, I’d pull it down and start again. It’s right on the front, and I suppose if what you want is a place to doss after drinking all night, and you don’t care about where you stay, it’ll do the trick. But 120 euros a night!! And a piece of advice, if you want a peaceful stay, check when the Pentecost celebrations are on. The noise goes on til after midnight and the beach is cleaned at 4 so your sleep window is limited. Oh yes, the pool. We escaped our tacky room (two narrow single beds which actually left me with a backache) with FILTHY curtains with squashed mozzie blood all over them as quickly as we could. The pool seemed fine, until the relentlessly loud techno music soundtrack was switched on, on and on. Just don’t bother with it.
