We have just come back from staying at the Old Bridge Hotel between 24th April to 7th May and have some comments. We read previous reviews and thought the stay would be OK, how wrong were we! This hotel should not be sold as a destination by UK travel agents. It is a run down 2 star that is scheduled to close in September, so money is being spent by the current owners on food or entertainment. Most of the guests are Russian and the hotel has been sold to Russian developers as it no longer meets EU standards. The staff, barring a few exceptions are discourtious and uncaring. Local Greek Cypriots are allowed free reign in the pool area and at night the car park is used by the local boy racers to show off their new hi fi base units with no reaction from the staff unless you complain. The food is appalling, Shepherds Pie without the meat was just one example - it was just a tray of mash with mushrooms and tinned vegatables sprinkled over! Every breakfast there was a tray of watery baked beans and one other hot option, but only 3 times in 10 days was the other option eggs and one of those was hard boiled. On Sundays it was the left over roast tomatoes from the previous night. If these were not used they became the tomato soup for that night! As for the evening meals the soups were packet, salads were passable, but the main coarses were mostly inedable. One UK guest said he had better food in prison! One night frozen fish fingers were being passed of as some sort of exotic fish dish. All the vegatables were either frozen or tinned and boiled within an inch of their lives. Deserts were usually the highlight of the meal as some effort had usually been made, home made cake or honey deserts, usually accompanied by jelly or a custard type dish. However even here tinned fruit salad was used, despite Cyprus's huge fruit growing industry! The only entertainment, if you can call it that, was a karioke night on Thursdays. The traditional Cyprus night was cancelled due to costs as the hotel is due to close. It also seeems that some rooms are used for reasons not usually associated with a family holiday hotel. Needless to say rooms with "Do not disturb" notices outside all day but with comings and goings during the early hours of the morning suggests something strange going on. We would strongly reccomend that anyone offered this hotel query it with their agents. It really is the pits!
