Kangming Hotel Beijing  - Beijing, China     

After a stay in a very nice hotel in Shanghai we arrived in this hotel and got to see a quite different side of China. When we checked in the staff demanded to search our bags to ensure we didn't bring any dangerous or illegal items into the hotel. I don't know if this is standard procedure in Beijing because of the coming Olympics but I have never experienced anything like it before. Apart from this incident the staff was very nice but not very well educated. They were all very young and inexperienced and most of them didn't understand any English at all. I had to ask three people before anyone could point me to the nearest toilet. My friend asked for directions to a pub that showed the Champions League final and got the address to a football field... Otherwise the rooms were quite nice and the location is not bad. The lunch restaurant is ok, but skip the breakfast it was not a good experience. I went to nearby 7/11 instead.

I had a great stay here. It was absolutely first class, I would highly recommend a stay here well located close to all sites. Try the local restaraunt up the road about 50metres great family and staff some strange things to eat but they are amazing friendly and down to earth people
