My family recently returned from a 10 day tour in China - our 4 days at the Ascott Beijing made for a fantastic finale. We got all the creature comforts of a hotel (nice furnishings, linens and maid service) combined with the privacy and space of a large apartment.
We were a mixed group: two grandparents, three grandsons (11, 9, and 8 yrs old), their mom and me (the auntie). After 6 days in hotels and staying in 3 separate hotel rooms - with frequent calling between rooms to get organized for breakfast, dinner, etc - this luxurious apartment set up was a welcome change (and about the same price).
Our 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom apartment seemed new and extremely clean. There was a washer/dryer combo, but it was so slow that it was just better to send our laundry out to a service. The kitchen was well appointed & we could easily prepare our meals - the maid service helped finish up the dishes we inevitably left behind each morning.
For the kids, the big pool and hot tub were a blast - a much needed energy release every day. Very clean & pretty with big towels. For younger children there is a babypool, a playroom and for adults a nice gym.
The breakfast buffet that came with our room rate was not all that great, but we went a couple times anyway. Plus, it was fun to see some of the ex-pat families that basically live at the Ascott.
The location was pretty good, with a nice 'western' style market within walking distance.
I would highly recommend this hotel/apartment building for travelling families or groups. It was so much easier to communicate and coordinate, that we were more relaxed for the touring (and dealing with the terrible Beijing traffic).
Thie hotel worked really well for us. We stayed in a 3 bedroom suite with my children and my parents. The suite was clean, large and had all the comforts of home. It has a kitchen, dining room, multiple bathrooms, and laundry facilities. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The hotel is located in a business district, not a tourist area. It's close to the subway which makes it easy to get around. And the are lots of shopping and restaurants in the area. The mattresses on the beds are hard. The location might be a little hard for taxis to find as it is one block off the main street. Other than that, I would definitely stay here again.
Stayed for 2 nights as a layover for a business trip. Would recommend and stay again. Staff is exceptionally helpful, excellent language skills. Location is good, close to silk market (touristy district) and a quick cab ride to any of the major sites.
Rooms are large apartments, full kitchen, large bathroom. Possible to have 1, 2, 3 bedroom apartments. Cleanliness is good, everything exceptional but the bed. Not as comfortable as I would like for a long term. Was fine for 2 nights, but not a 5 star bed.
Facilities cater to long term overseas business, nice fitness center, good western restaurant and good japanese restaurant, didn't try others.
For some reason location is difficult for the taxi drivers at the airport to find. It is tucked away behind the Motorola Center. Some drivers understand "Motorola", most do not. If staying here e-mail staff and request directions from airport to hotel in Chinese.
