We had a good stay. Had a good room, swam in the pool, used the gym, filled ourselves with breakfast, dined at the hotel restaurant, had a few drinks at the bar and had room service. Not all hotels have this. It's quite an old hotel, but it has all the facilities, which is a plus. It is quite a walk from the city centre, but then again, I did not mind this. Hotel staff were all professional. Used the chaffeured hotel car to the airport instead of a taxi. It can be an old hotel, but they still live up to thier standards.

I chose the Crowne Plaza Zurich , because it is so quick to go downtown from there by public transportation. Check in was done in no time and with a smile, even if the reception was crowed. I really felt welcome in this hotel. After going in my room, nice and very well equipped (wifi and playstation…) by the way, I went down to have a drink with my colleagues on the quiet and sunny terrace. As we were in Zurich for a short period of time, we ask for a nice restaurant in city center and were very well counselled. After a resting night, (very good mattress and no noise), we had a scrumptious breakfast. The buffet was so big you do not know what to choose from. Check out same as check in : friendly and efficient. Next time I have to go in Zurich, I will stay on the same hotel and this time, I will use the spa, have dinner in the restaurant (menu looked good) and I will ask to visit their big conference center.

While this hotel is worn and in need of a rennovation, it was clean, everything worked, and it has a few features that make it worthy of consideration and a good choice for a business traveler. The room was large by Swiss standards (with a king sized bed), as was the bathroom. I was particularly pleased that unlike 3 other hotels I have stayed at in Zurich the air conditioning actually was powerful enough to keep the room at 70 degrees when it was 80 outside and in most buildings. Internet access is through DSL which is slightly slower and much cheaper than the wireless access available everywhere. There was also an ice machine in the hallway, which is a novelty for Switzerland in my experience. The place was a bit understaffed, but everyone was helpful, polite, and efficient. There are two restaurants - the food in the nicer restaurant was excellent as was the service, and prices were reasonable given the quality. Ask for a room on the 'back side' - my room had a view of the outdoor patio, dining area, and pool with scenic hillside in the distance, but apparently the rooms at the front of the hotel are noisy with a lesser view. The location is fine, with some ethnic restaurants and a nice bakery/ice cream shop within a short walk. A nearby tram will take you to the center of the city in about 10 - 15 mintues.

Except the fact it is an Intercontinental, a hotel chain that I usually appreciate, I actually only found negative aspects to this hotel : The location in Zurich is inconvenient (the area seems a little bit depressed and there is no major attractions / restaurants / etc. in walking distance) ; The hotel room are very small and completely outdated (is this realy what we call a 4 star hotel???) - the bathroom especially was terrible and - believe or not - the phone was not working in my room (even after I complained twice at the front desk) ; It's expensive and the value for money is bad - You could definitely find better in Zurich ; and they didn't credit the points to my Frequent Traveller fidelity programm (even after I complained at the reservation desk ...) ; It is absolutely NOT the standard of an Intercontinental (and I have stayed at 4 of them in the past) ... Very bad everything.

This hotel was formerly the Intercontinental Hotel Zurich, as the brand switched on January 1, 2007. Yes, the hotel is a 7 to 10 minute tram ride from the Hauptbanhof (via tram 3, get out at Albisriederplatz), but you get to see the Zurich that natives live in, not the touristy places. The walk is a short 3 to 5 minute walk from the stop. Check in was fantasic´-- the young gentleman spoke perfect English and was cordial, professional and gave us a nice room away from the street. The room had excellent bed mattresses, nice big bathroom and plenty of light. I can see how business travelers used to the Intercontinental brand can have negative impression of this hotel, but as a Crowne Plaza, the rooms were clean and comfortable. With our stay included complimentary use of the fitness center. We did not try the breakfast as the hotel charged 33 SFR per person, which in our mind was outrageous for a breakfast buffet. In the lobby are 2 internet stations that cost 15 SFR an hour, but there is also a WIFI hotspot you can connect to and pay a modest fee. All in all, we particularly enjoyed this hotel very much and would recommend to anyone who doesnt mind being in West Zurich, again a 7 to 10 minute tram ride from the main train station.
