We stayed here on a Travelsphere break (?98 for 2 nights B&B). The hotel has a lovely olde-worlde feel to it, particularly the front of the hotel and rooms above the hotel. The hotel has two blocks of "Superior" rooms out in the large free car park, plus a conference centre, but we asked for the historic old rooms. Reception was very quick and easy, in fact, it took less than 3 minutes to get checked in. The room (44) was the best we have had there, large and airy, clean and comfortable with all expected conveniences. Niggle - only one pack of biscuits between 2 of us. We ate out both nights, but the hotel does a very good restaurant menu and a simpler bistro menu, plus bar food. Breakfast used to be from a menu, served hot. Now it is a buffet, still served hot in heated covered dishes, plus a selection of fruit and pastries/cereals. It was still a good breakfast, but not as good as it used to be! When we got back to our room on the second day, we noted that although the room had been cleaned, the glasses (plastic) had not been replaced and the bed had not been tucked in - and still only one pack of biscuits. Little things do niggle! However, for the cost, location (the town is lovely and relaxing, with plenty of bars, restaurants and walks), it is still excellent value and we will return.
