I have just returned from a 4 night stay at Swissotel Zurich with my two children. I booked through a well known Internet booking company which advertised Triple rooms at this hotel. This room was significantly more expensive than a double or twin so I assumed there would be at least 3 single beds with a bit of room to manoeuvre.
Boy, was I disappointed when I opened the door. The room was tiny with 2 single beds and no room to put in a third single bed. It was also very out-dated with virtually no decoration anywhere in the room. There was a shelf running along the wall at the head of the beds that would dig into your back if you sat up in the bed. Basically it was dreadful. Seemingly the hotel is a converted office block!!!!!!
The Guest Services manager was up to the room very promptly and showed me another room which was much the same. All they could offer me was an up-sell to a suite at 152 swiss francs PER night, 608 SF(?400 approx.) in total. As I had prepaid for my Triple room, I could do nothing but accept this. Most of my holiday money was now gone.
I later discovered that this was the Rack Rate up-sell and the hotel had made absolutely NO allowance for their inability to provide me with the room I had booked. I brought this to their attention, thus giving them the opportunity to offer some form of compensation but they declined. I do not like giving bad reviews but feel this hotel needs to do something about their rooms. The Suite was lovely but WOW did I pay a heavy price for some space.
SO, beware when booking that the rooms are very small- a twin room is a room with 2 single beds,( in a standard below average, for a 4* hotel). A triple room is the same twin room with a camp bed squeezed in, leaving absolutely NO room between the beds.
Not a nice way to holiday!!!!!!
