This is an excellent hotel tastefully decorated in Tyrolean style. It is situated slightly above the village and the hotel is reached by a lift from village level which takes you up to the reception area.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant is "top drawer"
The rooms are of an excellent standard and most have views of the Matterhorn as does the dining room and terrace.
Our four night stay was a delight and Zermatt in summer a must see.

Stayed at this hotel over christmas and new year. The hotel has a fabulous view and is in a good location for the sonnegga ski train which is very beneficial if you dont like walking too far in your ski boots and not a far walk to the gornergrat train. However it is expensive to get a taxi to the matterhorn express which is the best ski lift to go from - more slopes to choose from and travel over to Italy ! We booked this hotel for our honeymoon - we are young professionals (30) and although i do like modern chic accommodation we thought this hotel would be romantic and cosy for our honeymoon and christmas. We did find Coeurs Des Alpes beforehand which is more our style but it was already booked up 12 months before. However when you are in zermatt you come across some amazing hotels and apartment hotels and comparing the price to what we paid at Schonegg, this hotel is well overpriced and you do not get value for money at all. I do appreciate Switzerland is more expensive however the room we had was £300 per night (half board) and was little better than a good travelodge over here. We had a double room with a view of the matterhorn - the bed was a double frame with 2 single mattresses and there was not one item of luxury in the room. This suggests that you pay alot of money for the view and your food - we had no option but to go half board and if you decided to eat out one night they would only deduct 25chf per person. In the restaurant the service was excellent and the staff very efficient - however to say we were paying £300 per night i didnt expect to be told to sit at the same table everynight and to have a fixed 5 course menu. We ate out 5 out of 10 nights - there is an excellent choice of restaurants in Zermatt. On the 5 nights we ate in the hotel we had one bad meal and the others were either ok or excellent. The hotel state you can ask for alternatives to the fixed menu but we found that when we did ask for alternatives this it was not welcomed and we were causing a nuissance. They do listen if you complain about the table you are allocated (we did and a few other people) and they do move you however we didnt like the fact we had to have a fixed table for the whole holiday and felt like we were on a SAGA holiday.
The hotel spa consists of 2 whirlpools, water bed, sauna and steam room, 2 aromatic showers, 2 foot soak. The fitness consists of 1 exercise bike. The spa is lovely and certainly gives the hotel that extra star - the only complaint is that it only opens at 3pm and the whirlpool isnt very hot.
To conclude the hotel is lovely, the service excellent, very clean and has excellent views - our main problem was that it was not value for money in comparison to other accommodation we saw in zermatt.
Zermatt is an excellent ski resort and we would return in a second - but not to this hotel. This hotel seemed to have alot of repeat customers of all nationalities so it cant be too bad - it just wasnt the right one for us.
