Hotel Holiday - Zermatt, Switzerland     

We recently booked two double rooms - one with a Matterhorn view - at the Hotel Holiday. The rooms were extremely clean and spacious (by European standards), despite the somewhat old furniture. Nice big balconies for admiring the views. The bathrooms sparkled and seemed recently renovated, but the shower "door" did little to stop the spray of water from pelting the bathroom floor. The service was great; the people at the front desk were always cheerful and helpful (but keep in mind that they are not there 24-hours a day). Breakfast was pleasant enough with plenty of baked goods, cold cuts, and cheeses. Less than a 10-minute walk to train station, Bahnhofstrasse, and Gornergrat train and ski lifts. Our double room had a fold-out bed, and the other one had a small sofa that I believe converted into a bed. Seems like a great place for families or skiers/hikers rooming together. Dogs welcome! (But I believe there is an extra charge). Rooms are a little pricey for what they are but, but are very reasonable by Zermatt standards.

The location was nice, easy to get to the lifts and just outside the main drag of the village. Our room was very clean and nice. The staff were very friendly, breakfast was wonderful and laundry service was excellent!
