went to lugano for a weekend. I have been going to Lugano since I am a child and I used to know all parts of it. We went there without a reservation and checked the different options upon arrival. It was rather cold and grey just to underline that a lakeview could not have been totally appreciated. But even in off season fares were extremely high (450 CHF for a backside view) and then we found the hidden gem nestled in Paradiso, on the hillside with beautiful views of the scenery and lake. We stayed in a 45 sq suite with 2 rooms (that can accommodate 4 people so with our 4 years old daughter we had plenty of space), 1 bathroom and a huge balcony . Breakfast was included until noon and was delicious (pancakes, waffels, eggs cooked "minute"). Staff was very nice and helpful. Wellnesscenter with a small but beautiful indoor heated pool. 2 Restaurants in one: japanese and mediterranean. We tried the second one but it was average and rather expensive. The hotel offered a special very interesting rate for this last weekend before the start of the high season and we really appreciated our week-end.

My husband and I wered staying at a nearby hotel. We decided to try their Japanese restaurant, Tsukimi Tei. We were seated in the Italian restaurant since they couldn't find our reservation and we had some translation difficulties, we were then re-seated in the Tsukimi Tei area of the same restaurant. It served Bento Box and such like, the ventilation was bad, so the whole place smelt more like a grill bar. We waited around 40 minutes for our food to arrive, in between times asking for the water or some other drink that they'd forgotten. One of our meals should have come with sake, which I was looking forward to. It didn't arrive. We were losing the will to live even though we certainly weren't in a rush. Eventually the food arrived which was ok but well overpriced, and we were again neglected long after we'd finished. We had trouble getting the attention of one of the many passing waiters to ask for the dessert menu. There just seemed to be floating around with no purpose. We ordered dessert and coffees at the same time to be on the safe side. They forgot about our coffees. So we gave up and asked for the bill (coffees were on there of course). The tiramisu dessert was pretty nice but to be honest we were so hacked off by then that the whole meal was a right off. The hotel staff had a strange detached attitude so I was glad we were staying at the Hotel Eden in Lugano which was very friendly and welcoming.
