Stayed in the apartments in May 2008. Very reasonable price booked through the hotel's website. Standard of apartment was good, albeit a little dated. The apartment was very clean with cooker and hob, fridge, crockery, cutlery and even a carpet sweeper. The apartment was not cleaned during our stay but for a week this was fine. The location was excellent - in the centre of Grindelwald and 5 minutes walk from the main Grindelwald train station (not Grindelwald Grund). There was free outdoor car parking at the rear of the hotel. Most of the places to eat in Grindelwald were part of the hotels although there was an excellent Chinese restaurant just up the road (down some steps - not that easy to find). As we had a rail pass we got the train into Interlaken some nights (about a 30 minute journey each way). The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. If you need to know anything, just ask - nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely stay here again.

This was our first time in Switzerland and we stuggled on the internet to decide where to go and to find a hotel we might like. Typically we'd opt for good individual hotels typical of many found in a guide like Alistair Sawdays. We found so many internet sites of hotels offputting. We were very glad that we chose Grindelwald and the Bernese Oberland as it seemed to us to be the essence of pituresque Switzerland. It's a brilliant base to plan walks from in the summer. The Hotel Eiger is a fantastic hotel in a perfect location. It's quite modern so doesn't have lots of traditional character. However, with the ever changing views of the Eiger to enjoy it simply doesn't matter. We would definitely recommend a room with a view of the Eiger. The hotel rooms are quite modern. Ours was clean, spacious and comfortable. It's the staff, the superb wellness centre and the level of service that make this hotel so outstanding. The staff, without exception were among the best we have ever come across in years of travel all over the world. Nothing was a problem and they were unfailingly polite. We wouldn't expect such attention to detail in a hotel twice the price. The breakfasts are superb with a large range of food served in a buffet style. The wellness centre is fantastic and perfect for relaxing after strenuous walks. It is a little more expensive than other hotels but is well worth the extra cost if you can afford it. You won't feel ripped off. We absolutely recommend this hotel and cannot wait to go back.
