Nothing in Geneva is going to be cheap (and as the European Football competition was on there was no hostel accommodation). The hotel is an easy walk (approx 6 mins) from the station. Leave the station and turn right (you see trams and a church in front of you). Walk along this street for about 4 minutes and when the Ibis sign shows you should turn right, ignore this and take the next right turn at the pharmacy on the corner. You will go under the railway line. Reception was friendly. Rooms were very modern but small. Excellently designed bathrooms - strong water jet, instant hot water. Flat screen tv with quite a few chanels. Wireless computer access in some rooms (make sure to ask for this at chech in) but there is some charge for it. Don't know anything about the breakfast which they charge an extra 15CHF for as there are plenty of places to eat near the station. I paid 144 CHF for two of us and felt it was well worth the money.

The Ibis is located on the north side of Geneva Cornavin (main) railway station. Moreover, situated next door to the Salvation Army, it is not in a very elegant part of Geneva. As other correspondents have noted, it is about 10 minutes walk from the station. Because of tramway extension works on the north side of station, it is best to come out the south side, turn west (ie right) and walk along until you see the Rue Voltaire turning. You then see the hotel, on your right, just under the bridge. It is on 7 floors of about 10 rooms so quite small. I spent Saturday and Sunday nights 6 and 7 October there. I had room 207 looking out on Rue Voltaire. It is in basic Ibis style, with two small beds with duvets. The desk/table was under the window. There was a hard wooden chair. There was hanging space, though I noted one hanger was broken. The bathroom had a shower unit but not a bath. The washbasin and toilet were in the same compact area. The soap was liquid soap in a squeezy container. The room had one only plug besides that used for the TV, so it needed some juggling to recharge my mobile phone, PDA etc. They did not change towels when I followed the procedure to save energy. Good marks. I did not have breakfast. It is served on the area at the side of reception on the ground floor. Access to the lifts and the bedroom floors is by swiping the plastic room key through a slot. Good securiy. Following the tip in a previous report, I asked for and got the card valid for my stay - Geneva Transport Card - valid on trams, buses and lake ferry crossing. It costs CHF 10 normally for a weekend though more I think weekdays. Worth asking for as the public transport system is very goof. I paid CHF 123 per night. A reasonable stay and good for anyone on a tight budget.
