Novotel Geneve Centre - Geneva, Switzerland 

I can not fault them on the price or the general efficiency of their service. It was not the Ritz and neither was it the Hilton. We went there knowing full well that this was going to be a no frills experience. But nobody had warned us that this was right in the middle of the red light district. OK, Geneva red-light is not Amsterdam red light but still.... I wonder why everyone keeps going on about the "great location" !

This hotel is fine -- room perfectly clean, central location, but don't stay here if you anticipate needing help from the staff, as they were neither helpful nor polite. The gym is minimal: one treadmill, one bike, one rowing machine, one elliptical trainer, one weight machine, all crammed into one small room with one tv screen. There were no cups at the water cooler when I visited (and no staff anywhere nearby). I had some problems with the internet connection in my room; the front desk clerk said he would send a technician that day to check it, but I returned to my room that night to the same situation and no message of explanation. The clerk informed me that there were no technicians available at the moment, she had no record of my situation, and suggested there might be something wrong with my computer. Same situation the next day. I was also told upon check-in that breakfast was included in my rate, but when I called the next morning to ask whether room service would incur an extra charge, I was told that breakfast was not included. Finally, I had my boarding pass for my outgoing flight faxed to the hotel, but never received it.
