Excellent location, walking distance to just about everywhere you would want to go. Staff was great. Rooms aren't totally modern like picture indicates, but good for the price. Tried to find off-site parking for cheaper, but with red light district just around the corner decided to spend the $ a night.

Montreal Grand Prix Weekend 2008

My husband & I visit Montreal frequently and for the past 5 years, we have attended the annual Canadian Grand Prix races, cringing at the increase in hotel prices that occur for this particular weekend. I'm happy to report that our 3-night stay at the Candlewood Suites was fantastic & impressive! I would describe the price as "BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK". We paid $142/night Cdn (taxes in) for the three nights. We stayed in a Queen Studio that included a stove, fridge, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, and 4-cup coffee maker. The suite was L-shaped making us feel like we had a bit of privacy for the bedroom & it included 2 large TV's. The bedroom TV had a DVD player attached to it. A clock radio was missing from the bedside table but one phone call to the Front Desk resulted in a prompt delivery of this. The suite was clean, included 2 closets (small front hall closet & large bedroom closet). There were 2 dressers (one in bedroom, other used as TV stand in family room area). The underground parking is located at the hotel next door (Holiday Inn Express Suites). The Front Desk Staff as well as the Parking Valets were all very friendly & well-informed about activities occuring throughout the city. We were advised that this hotel is geared for "long-stay" travellers and therefore, housekeeping is offered once/week. I wasn't sure if I was keen on this. However, when we needed some fresh towels, we picked them up from the Front Desk and left the dirty towels in the Trash Chute/utility closet area down the hall on our floor. It was very nice NOT to be disrupted by Housekeeping knocking on the door waiting to clean the room on a daily basis. We'll definitely stay here again!

Stayed at the hotel from 6-27 to 7-2 2008 for the Montreal jazz festival. We used comp points from Holiday Inn's Priority Club program. Candlewood costs 15,000 points a night compared to the adjacent Holiday Inn Express which cost 25,000. Here are the positives of the hotel: -Location-10 minute walks to the old city, Chinatown, Jazz Festival, Latin Quarter, The Village and the Metro. Absolutely perfect location even though the area a block away is a little seedy, it was still pretty safe. My wife and I walked back from the jazz fest at 2:00 Am on more than one night so don't worry about the area. And yes you can find a hotel in a nicer section but probably not as centrally located. I can't stress this enough this is a great locale. -Front desk staff were very nice and accomodating. -The room condition-We had a newly renovated very large 1 bedroom suite on the 12th floor (room 1216). The room was in excellent physical condition with 2 flat screen TV's,DVD player, view of the beautiful City Hall in the view port section of the city, full kitchen. No mold or old and dilapidated furniture. The negatives: -The air conditioning unit is only in the bedroom. It is also a very loud machine. It cools off the suite if you turn it up high and leave the bedroom door open, but the bedroom will feel like Antartica. -No housekeeping, which is a facet of Candelwood's service. You will need to run down to the lobby for extra towels, soap or tissues etc. And you have to make your own bed (or not). -No ice machine on the Candlewood side of the hotel. You will have to run over to the Holiday Inn Express which is a seperate entrance in the same building. -No Breakfast bar but you could probably sneak into the Express and no one would know or care, or you could cook your own. Overall I would not hesitate to go back but don't expect the Four Seasons or the Bellagio.
