After reading reviews about the Hotel Continental, and learning it was featured on TV’s Holidays from Hell, we were very apprehensive about going. We arrived early on the Sunday morning about 2.30 am, the receptionist didn’t speak much English but we were checked in without any problems, and shown our rooms. Much to our relief the room was fine and clean and more than up to the job. The next morning we were able to take a look around and saw the two star block of rooms, which looked dirty, shabby, and very old and in disrepair, we were pleased we had booked the 3 star rooms. The breakfast was eatable if not a little bland, fruit, cereal, some hot things like small sausages, eggs etc. Although busy the queues weren’t excessive and the supplies were stocked up regularly. The evening food was basic and uninspiring but eatable, a choice of veal, pork or chicken, and fruit for desert. There were no queues at the evening, as not many people seemed to eat there, indeed most nights when we ate there only a couple other tables were used. The Mexican restaurant near the beach Stalios was by the far the best place to eat. Customer service and food quality on the whole in the places we went in Bulgaria and Sunny Beach (apart from the Mexican) were lacking, but on the plus side the weather and prices were brilliant. The Hotel is located on the outskirts of Sunny Beach, with a few bars and shops which was ideal for us, the beach a couple of minutes walk away, more bars / shops a few minutes walk away, and the centre of Sunny Beach about 20 minutes walk away, where the discos / bars go on until 4am. Maid service was everyday, towels changed daily, sheets every other day, the hotel / pool clean. We never had any problems getting a sun bed by pool no matter what time we went, cost was 8 levs a day (about £2.50) for 2 beds and a brolly. Two beds and a brolly on the beach cost 18 levs a day (£6). Overall a good clean place to stay in a great location.
