Macdonald Berystede Hotel & Spa - Ascot, United Kingdom 

In anticipation of a relaxing weekend close to the Thames and surrounding areas we booked this hotel. As my wife has Rheumatoid Arthritis with a walking disability we were assured of a confirmed room close to reception and a reserved car parking slot. First problem was unclear parking availability which became more complicated as the hours passed. After checking in we followed the porter towards the nominated room and after what was developing into a walk along a hundred yards of corridor I called a halt, went back to reception and requested the room be changed in line with our booking. After much fuss we were offered another room. This proved to be extremely small with twin beds pushed together to give poor access around them. A poorly fitting sash window looked out onto the what was the back of the kitchens with constant smashing of glass as bottles were tossed into the bottle bank, together with chat from hotel staff congrigating out in the yard. This was at a cost of ?163 per night on a B & B basis. We complained to management who were unable to give a satisfactory altenative, then, in despair, chose to check out of the hotel and return home over night, a round trip of 600 miles. Not happy at all!
