Hotel Villa Foscarini - Mogliano Veneto, Italy 

We booked this hotel as part of an Easyjet.com holiday pacckage (uk cheap flights company) and looked like the best of a bunch of hotels based just outside of venice. Although the hotel is in the small and quiet town of Mogliano, it is just one stop away from Venice Mestre and then onto Venice on the water- in total, about a 20-25min train trip. From the airport its a 25min taxi ride, costing about 45 euros by airport taxi, 25 euros on the way back from the hotel. The hotel itself is recently refurbished to a high standard. All the reception staff we encountered were extremely friendly and helpful. Although the hotel is located close to a main road and railway, we had no problems at all with sound. Breakfast was a simple but ample affair with the usual croissant, coffee, juice, cheese, ham, etc and a few cakes thrown in for good measure. In some ways it would have been better to have been located amongst the action of venice itself. However, this would probably have meant either paying a lot more money or staying in lesser accommodation. All in all we were very impressed with the hotel and felt that the 25min commute to and from venice did not hamper our enjoyment of our stay at the hotel or of the wonderful city itself.
