Alexander The Great Beach Hotel - Kriopiyi, Greece 

We were staying in Alexander the Great beach hotel in July 2007. The choice of the hotel was unusual: we were staying in other hotel nearby two years ago and visited Alexander's beach regularly and it was then that we fell in love with the hotel beautiful buildings and gardens, so we were just wondering how great the hotel might be inside if it was so great outside! I am not sure how exactly the star rating is awarded to the hotels in Greece, but I can definitely say that Alexander the great premises do not deserve 4* rating! Here are just some facts (We were paying EUR 110 per night for a double room, breakfast included): 1) The reception seems to be rather inefficient, with just one person working there at a time, so the check-in process took us around 20 minutes with just one person in front of us; 2) There were no soaps, shampoos, etc in the bathroom (very worn down bathroom, by the way) as we arrived and when we inquired the reception, we were informed that WE ACTUALLY HAD TO SPECIFICALLY ASK FOR THEM; 3) Air conditioning in the room was awful and this was probably the worst thing of all as it was around 40C outside. Normally, in sothern countries you are relived when getting to the cool room from the sun, but not there! 4) The breakfast was plentiful in amounts, but very basic in content: not too many things in addition to continental breakfast (w/o croissants, of course:) 5) We had to pay EUR 6 per day for the umbrella and the sunbeds on the beach, even though we were the hotel guests. The hotel definitely takes a lot of care for the gardens and plants on the territory, the beach and the sea there are amazing too. The distance from nearest town is around 50 min walking. All in all, it might be an ideal resort for peaceful holidays on the sea; however, it's just a pity that the hotel management does not put an effort to make the inside as attractive as the outside!

Wir mussten die ersten 2 Nächte in einem Zimmer eines Nebengebäudes verbringen, dass sehr gestunken hat. Erholungswert gleich null. Erst nach wiederholten Reklamationen an der Rezeption wurde uns ein schönes Zimmer im Hauptgebäude zugewiesen. Das hier die Klimaanlage nicht funktioniert hat, haben wir in Kauf genommen um nicht wieder Stunden an der Rezeption zu verbringen, obwohl ich das bei einem 4* erwartet hätte. Aufgrund vieler Beschwerden waren die Damen an der Rezeption dementsprechend unfreundlich. Das Essen war gut bis sehr gut. Überaus teuer waren die "Nebenkosten" zB die Getränke zum Essen waren weit überhöht. ZB eine Flasche Bier 5 Euro - in einem Restaurant in der Umgebung zahlte man dafür ca. 2 Euro. Ausgezeichnet war der Strand. Daher: Empfehlung erst wenn Sie lesen, dass das Hotel generalsaniert wurde.
