Holiday Inn Manchester Airport - Wilmslow, United Kingdom 

Me & my partner stayed here last November before we went to Egypt on holiday to take advantage of the on site secure parking and as a bit of a treat before our holiday. We didnt eat in the hotel as i refuse to pay hotel prices for food so we went into Wilmslow and ate at a restaurant for half the price and was much nicer. The hotel itself is OK, not the nicest but not the worst. Check in was fine, staff friendly enough. However the room was very very small and when you have 2 suitcases as well does not leave much room to move about. OK for an overnight stay though but if i had been staying longer would have asked for another room. Shuttle bus only runs at certain times, was on time and no problems but when you come back from your holiday you have to go to the airport rail station and wait for the next bus to take you back to the hotel. We had to wait for about 15 minutes and it was freezing. All in all the hotel etc was OK but i would stay somewhere else next time.

My stay here was very disappointing. Flight times necessitated my arriving at about 4.30 a.m. On check-in I was put in a smoking room (despite having been assured on booking that I was being given a non-smoking room), a fact which I didn't discover until I actually entered the room and the smell of stale smoke hit me. I went back to the desk, and was told by an unhelpful night clerk that despite the assurance I was given on booking, no non-smoking room was available. He also said that breakfast was not included in the quoted price, despite my having been told on booking that it was. I had no alternative but to go back to the smoking room. Ten minutes after I'd got into bed, I received a phone call from the clerk to say that he'd discovered a non-smoking room after all and did I want to change. Even given this inconvenience (at what was by then about 5.00 a.m.), the room I was in was sufficiently offensive that I elected to do this. I had also been told on booking that late-check-out given my arrival time was an option, without also being told that a hefty fee attached to this additional "service". And the last straw was to be told on checking out, when it was already too late for breakfast, that the night-clerk had been mistaken and breakfast was included in the price. All in all, I though the service was incompetent, off-hand, and discourteous, and I would never stay at this hotel again.
