Holiday Inn Brussels Airport - Diegem, Belgium 

I have stayed in this hotel many times over the past four years as we have a regional office in Diegem. Over this time the hotel has declined somewhat. You used to get food in the bar, but now it's snacks. The restaurant food used to be a la carte, now it is only buffet. The gym used to be manned with a little bar, now it is not. As a non-smoker, I always go for the non-smoking rooms, but to get to these you have to pass the smoking rooms. The corridor smells of smoke. Not too pleasant really. The rooms are typical business class. They are comfortable and quite spacious. It seems that free wi-fi is available now, although I didn't try it when I stayed last time. I have never had any problems with Internet when I stayed there. The downtown bar is quite a nice place to sit and relax over a couple of Belgian beers. Normally it is full of business types discussing mega money or mega deals. So if you don't like listening to this then I would suggest to drink somewhere else. The food is ok. Can be good, can be distinctly average. The prices are average for this kind of hotel - about 50 Euros for starter, main meal and a glass of wine. You can still get room service, despite there only being a buffet. The leisure facilities are good. I always use the gym, the sauna, the steam bath and the whirlpool. You have to pass through a shower to get to the pool and whirlpool and usually the water is icy cold. So most people either try to find ways around it or get through as quickly as they can. The staff are very friendly and always willing to help. No complaints there at all. The room price is variable to say the least and is based on demand. Last week, I paid 135 Euros / night, but in the past this has been 250 Euros / night for the same class of room. For those arriving from the airport, there is a shuttle which runs every half an hour. But you need to check the timetable at the airport as the service is variable. There is a clock by the hotel entrance showing the time for the next shuttle to the airport. As of July 2008, the hotel is undergoing major refurbishment. It is expected to be completed by September.

My daughter had business in Diegem and was booked at this hotel. I joined her for 5 nights. We shared a large room with two queen beds. Room was very large by European standards. Rooms and lobby have free WiFi. We did not eat in the 2nd floor restaurant but did eat twice in the lobby bar. Pricey but very good food. There is an indoor pool. Staff was very polite and helpful. They have an airport shuttle plus taxi's were available most of the time. Bus stop right out front of the hotel which I used to go into Brussels, but you could walk a short distance to the Diegem train station also..
