"A great stay"

Once again I have stayed in this lovely hotel, as I always do on my visits to Brussels. This time it was a short stay of two nights but still very good. The hotel has undergone renovations and is now looking more fresh, not that it ever looked bad. The furniture is new and so are the carpets. One thing that hasn't changed (and it is in no need of changing) is the very good service you get in this 3 star hotel. When you think of star ratings they usualy reffer to the amenities, so just to put things in order: this 3 star hotel has a 5 star level of service. OK, they won't take your luggage to your room but that's because 3 star hotels don't have bellboys but they will do anything they can to make your stay pleasant and always with a smile. The rooms are not very large, but not tiny either. The renovation has made them very nice, as I mentioned. Breakfast is served as a buffet and is ample. You will find eggs, various types of bread, cheese, cold meat, some warm dish and yoghurts. They have some cereals as well as juice and warm drinks. If you are sensative to noise you should ask for a room facing the rear of the hotel, so the traffic won't bother you. I strongly recommend this hotel, I have stayed in the Astrid for so many times and have yet to be dissapointed! Visit Brussels, it's a very nice city retreat, and stay at the Astrid for a great location and wonderful service.

Horrible
Overbooking, again

Tired from a train journey, we arrived at this hotel at 7.30pm, only to be told that due to a "technical problem", our room wasn't available. Seemingly we're not the first, by the looks of other reviews here. They could give us an alternative room at a different hotel, and proceeded to do so (and taxi us there). Notwithstanding the fact that the alternative hotel was in a much better location and far more convenient, that still gives this hotel a big zero "null points".

We arrived before noon for a one night stay at this hotel. We only had one night in Brussels so I wanted to be near the Grand Place. When we arrived we were told we did not have a room due to a "technical problem" the desk clerk would not discuss what a technical problem is but we were told they were moving us to another hotel in their chain- the furthest one from the Grand Place and definately not in walking distaance for dinner etc. I told them this was not accepatable. If I had wanted to stay way out of the center I would have made reservations in a hotel of my choice out there. she eventually had us wait in the lobby while she called someone and a room materialized...according to the clerk a "cancellation." Later in the evening we noticed a very large group arrive so we believe they probably pulled a switcheroo on people to accomadate a group. Other than this problem the hotel was very nice and an excellent location.
