AHotels Piolets Park & Spa - Soldeu, Andorra     

We have just come back from a week's stay at the Ahotels Piolets Park & Spa and have to agree with a lot of the less positive comments about this hotel. To start with the good stuff our room was on the top floor and had a lovely balcony with amazing views to the mountains, our room was clean and the bathroom was really nice. The beds though weren't very comfortable though and having duvets rather than sheets and blankets would be nicer. The location is also good - max. 8 mins walk from the gondolier. The breakfast is also amazing with lots of choices, both hot and cold, and a great way to set your self up for a day on the slopes. However we did have the same problems as the other reviews. The food in the evening was appalling - one night they actually served us raw pork kebabs and when we changed it for chicken which we had seen just come out of the oven it was stone cold. Also supposedly there is a 4.50 euro charge at dinner for all drinks but none of the staff seem to know about this so you have to pay for everything - including luke warm water from a water cooler! In the end we only ate in the restaurant twice because the quality was so poor and so we incurred additional expense eating out every night. There was also an issue with our friend’s room in that there was no dial for the room temp. We raised it twice on our day of arrival and the following day but nothing was done about it. In the end we raised this with our tour rep who finally got the issue resolved but it took the hotel 5 days in the end to get this sorted. The spa is nice and the jacuzzi outside with views to the mountains is to die for. Luckily our visit was complimentary because of the issues with the temp dial not being resolved but 12 euro a visit is quite steep and not great value for money. The staff also have limited English and those working on the Reception desk were especially unhelpful and unfriendly. Lastly if you are looking for hotel that is more geared to adults then families this hotel is not the right one for you. The nightly entertainment for children and families certainly is well organized and the kids love it, but if you want to sit and have dinner without the children’s entertainment walking through blowing whistles or sit in the bar for a quiet drink without a children’s disco then you won’t enjoy the Piolets.

What has happened to the piolets park hotel? We stayed here in Jan 2005 and had a different experience. Firstly the beds were so uncomfortable we hardly slept,secondly the restaraunt was so bad that of our 6 night stay we ate out 3 nights (We were staying half board) No one in the hotel had ANY English which we found odd since the travel agent we booked with was English. We also had to pay 12 euro each per visit to the spa. Soldeu is a very nice place but we will never go back to this hotel. I should have listened to the reviews.
