2We happened to travel to Vienna on the day that a major European Cup match was being held there, so we had a LOT of trouble finding a hotel. We chose the Mercure Wien Europaplatz even though it was more expensive than we would have liked, because the alternatives were too far from the city center or shared rooms in youth hostels. The hotel room was clean, air-conditioned (although not so you'd notice -- we ended up running a fan as well), and comfortable. They provided nice toiletries, and the bathroom contained speakers that connected to the TV, so you wouldn't miss anything during a bathroom break.
Problems with this hotel: Their parking garage was difficult to find and use. It wasn't clear how to open the door into the garage, so I climbed out of the car and pressed buttons until one worked. Once inside, there were very few parking spaces and they were all tiny. Our rental car was damaged as we tried to squeeze into a space. It's also not clear how the hotel keeps track of which guests are parking there -- we may have been able to avoid the 15 Euro/day fee by not mentioning it to them, since you didn't need your hotel key or any sort of code to access the garage.
The hotel had wireless internet available for a fee, or free use of one computer in the lobby. Their breakfast buffet costs an astounding 14 Euro/person (more than we spent on lunch or dinner most days), so we opted to have breakfast elsewhere.
All in all, it's a nice hotel in a good location (still had to take the U-Bahn to most attractions), but much more expensive than other places we found, and catering more toward business travelers than vacationers.
