Good place to stay in Vienna

The Atlantis was the perfect hotel for our needs in Vienna this July. We were a family of three staying in Vienna for 2 days en route to Slovenia. I got a 3 bed room, with A/C and non-smoking. The room was a bit small (and so was the shower!) but that was expected. We had a nice rear-located room that was very quiet. The front desk was helpful, getting us museum times and stuff like that. The hotel is located right in the same building as a large mall with a grocery store. This was wonderful for us.... We got in very late at night, and found a nice food kiosk still open inside the mall for dinner. The next morning we got up and went to the grocery store for some juice and food-stuffs. I highly recommend doing this over the hotel's breakfast or buying drinks from the wetbar. For Americans traveling in Europe, the price of everything is sky-high. But if you shop at the grocery store for simple foodstuffs, you can save a lot of money. But be warned to have a decent amount of Euros on you, as the two grocery stores in the mall only accept Austrian credit cards, not Visa or Mastercard. There is also a computer to use in the lobby with free internet and I do believe that there was wireless in the lobby available for a fee. We brought two laptops but didn't crack them open once, just used the computer they had available. I just wish there was a time-limit on the computer usage, because I waited 1.5 hours for a guy to get off one morning! The hotel is also located right near a metro stop. We highly recommend using the metro system in Vienna, it is so easy and convienent! Everything is within easy reach with that metro stop so near to the hotel. We did take a taxi from the airport to our hotel when we arrived, and that was veerrrryyy expensive! Overall, we really enjoyed our small sojourn at the Hotel Atlantis. It met all of our needs (quiet, cool, no-smoke, comfortable beds, good location) and then some.

We were pleasantly surprised with the size of the room. We booked a triple and got 3 separate beds, which was great for my husband, myself, and our college aged daughter who is studying abroad in Budapest and traveled with us to Vienna. The bathroom was modern and had a good shower. The hotel staff was quite friendly and very helpful with everything. My husband injured his back and we needed a doctor to assist us and the hotel staff summoned a 24hr doctor, which worked out perfectly. The hotel staff gave us great directions and the underground transportation in Vienna is great and just a block away from the hotel. We preferred this hotel to others located in the inner city because it was a great bargain and we were able to get to any place in the city easily on public transportation. The hotel was also less congested and the staff took time to help with our questions. We would definitely stay here again and felt it was a great hidden gem in the city. Close to the train stations, airport, and public transportation. If you are looking for a great hotel and not a lot of frills, the Atlantis is a good value, modern, and clean with comfortable beds, great shower etc.

Horrible
Will not stay at Atlantis again

Room was spacious. Blinds do not really block any light. Hotel is situated in a noisy neighborhood. I had to wear ear plugs when I sleep. They charged me at a rate higher than what I booked at. When I try to get it resolved, reply I got was "I trust you but there's nothing I can do." To make the matter worse, they double charged me. Although they credited me back on my credit card, I lost money due to foreign exchange rate differences! I do not recommend Atlantis.

Seek out the lost hotel of Atlantis

My wife and I stayed in an Executive Room in the Atlantis. It was only slightly more expensive than the standard room so we decided to opt for it. I'm not sure what the standard rooms are like but our room was really nice. It was massive, had a separate hallway, large bathroom, lcd tv and the minibar fridge had lots of room to put our own stuff into. The entrance to the executive rooms is separate from the main reception and to this regard we felt like we were staying in a private apartment. Public transport wise, it could not be better situated. I had wonderd what people meant by one block away to the nearest tube station. It is less than 2 minute walk. Or if you walk 7 or 8 minutes to the Westbahnhof, there is an underground station there that is much better connected and can take you right into the city centre. The hotel is also part of a large shopping / entertainment complex that has a supermarket / H&M-type shops / cinema / restaurants in it. Breakfast is very good with a wide range of cereals, cold meats, cooked meats, eggs, breads, yogurts etc. Now to the negatives. The hotel is situated in something of a red-light district. I did not feel threatened in any way at all but I think a lady staying on her own might not be so comfortable here. It's not like Amsterdam but when you go onto the main road, every 2nd or 3rd shop is a sex shop and one near the Westbahnhof has women in the window. My wife and I were not uncomfortable in any way though. Secondly, there is major deep excavation going on outside the hotel. Once or twice we were woken up by the sound of pneumatic drills at 8.30 in the morning. This is beyond the hotel's control though so I suppose I can't complain. All in all, I'd really recommend the Atlantis.
