The Prestbury House - Cheltenham, United Kingdom 0 star hotel

Address: The Burgage, Cheltenham, GL52 3DN
The Prestbury House details:  Enjoy the oak panelled rooms and roaring log fires in winter and croquet on the lawn with fantastic views in summer. A 300 year old Georgian Country Manor House in 5 acres secluded grounds yet only 1.5 miles from Cheltenham centre.

The uninterrupted panoramic views out to the Cotswold Hills, the traditional furnishings, family photographs and pictures and even a ghost story or two, all conspire to make any length of stay a memorable event. Also, beyond 5 acres of secluded tranquil grounds complete with Highland Cattle lies a treasure trove of equally engaging delights.

One of the real joys of staying in a privately-owned hotel, particularly one dating back to the early 1600s, is the individuality family ownership brings - from the flowers in the entrance hall to the decor and individuality of each bedroom .Nothing is 'corporate’ or 'the same’ at Prestbury House so it is worth checking with Reservations your precise requirements.

I stayed in this hotel with colleagues from work. We arrived to a very frosty reception as due to working late we arrived after 9 o'clock and were informed that we were lucky to get checked in as reception closed at 7 (this was never stated to us) There was then a huge over reaction the next night from the hotel owner as we had ordered drinks unaware that we could not charge them to the room and as we had no cash and were staying for 3 nights thought it would be ok to to bring the money later that afternoon. The owner said that we could not leave the bar untill the correct money was handed over! after frantic bag searches we finally managed to club together the money for 2 diet cokes. Worse still about a week later my company was sent an invoice for ?300 claiming myself and my colleage had smoked in the rooms causing damage to the above amount, this case is still being argued as it is untrue. I see from other reviews on this site that the management have a habit of taking monies not due to them and would not advise anyone to stay here, there are some lovely hotels near by I'm sure with staff and owners glad of your visit.

We travelled to Cheltenham from London several times during the month of September 2007 and chose the Prestbury House Hotel ever time! We originally found some information about the Prestbury House Hotel online and we phoned and booked with the hotel directly. Price wise, it was very competitive, compared to the other accommodation that we looked at booking, and we never had a hassle booking in, even at the last minute (upon 1 hours notice). Thanks again to the staff for looking after us on that occassion. The staff were very welcoming each time we came to stay and were always very happy to hear from us each time we phoned to make another booking and they remembered us by surname. Furthermore they remembered what we had been up to and we always had a great chat. We are both Australian and in our late 20s, and most of the accommodation we stay at is quite modern, and we like to stay somewhere a little more special, with character. We have done quite a lot of travelling throughout Europe, the USA, Asia and Australia over the last 4 years and were very pleased to find such a lovely hotel in a good location. Essentially, it was just what we were looking for. It was a very pleasant and relaxing experience together with a real family/personal feel to it. Each of the rooms were decorated differently which suited the old building and decor. We stayed in The Coachhouse in 2 different rooms, and found them to have unique character along with a homely feel. On one occasion, when it was cold the heating was on in the building and it worked very well. The area is very quiet and we never had any problems walking around during the day or at night to the local restaurants. On arrival the hotel provides you with a list of places to eat both in and around Cheltenham. The recommendations were always spot on - particularly The Royal Oak opposite the hotel and Kings Arms - a 5 min walk from the hotel. The breakfasts were great! Museli and fruit to start followed by a full english breakfast and of course tea and coffee. We really enjoyed sitting in the old style wood panel dining room looking out onto the gardens and eating our lovely breakfast. The only problem we did have was with the wireless Internet. It turned out that our computer was not compatible. The staff spent half an hour trying to solve the problem, but in the end suggested we use the free Internet at the library which is next door. We had no problems getting online and looking up what we needed to. We did some site seeing the first time we stayed there, taking the 606 bus from the Seven Posts Road bus stop into Winchcombe to see Sudeley Castle (which is a must see!) and only about 15 min away. Getting into the city centre of Cheltenham is also easy. You can take the A bus from a bus stop about 2 mins walk from the hotel, again on Seven Posts Road and it takes about 10-15min. The area surrounding the hotel has many typical english properties and all quite well kept. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel as we very much enjoyed our stay each time we were there. We even intend to pop in sometime and say hello to the owners now that we are living in Cheltenham!
