Meridiana - Sirmione, Italy 

For the price, the Meridiana cannot be beat. It's in the center of town, through the city walls. Great location, clean room, ask for a room with a balcony-essential. The rooftop terrace is fun with a bottle of wine to watch the sunset. Was in Sirmione for a wedding and the entire party stayed at this hotel. Would recommend highly.

My wife and I spent a week in this nice, homely, friendly hotel in the end of August and beginning of September 2005. The room was small but tastefully decorated, the bathroom was perfect and the beautiful balcony with flowers and a partial view to Garda Sea was our living room at nights, when we enjoyed good and cheap Italian wines from the region. Breakfast was good and the staff most friendly and helpful in all matters, for instance when booking tickets and transports to Arena di Verona and Aida. The hotel is perfectly situated just outside the tourist streets in old town, which secures tranquillity and peace. Mille grazie Signora Catarina et Cie. PS There is no supermarket in the old town, but you can take a bus for 1 euro to the new Sirmione (Colombare), where you can buy good cheap wines and delicious cheeses. Boat trips with the Battello-boat are great entertainment and a must.
