When I called to make my reservation, the German receptionist quickly switched her language to English and was so friendly. The entire staff at the Austrotel was helpful. The rooms are typical for Europe - long and narrow, and not big on space. A fellow traveler compared the rooms to "Pullman cars," but it was very comfortable and clean. The Austrotel is in a central location in Salzburg; you can walk to just about anything. Also, breakfast is included at the Austrotel; it is not fabulous, but to be included in the price, it is quite good. As long as spaciousness is not at the top of your priority list, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The Austrotel Salzburg is well located on the northern side of the river Salzach and is less than a 5 minute picturesque walk across a footbridge to the old town where most of the sights are. The hotel has an old-world charm about it with large rooms (particularly good for a family of 4 like us). The hotel seemed to be entirely run by women - from the reception to the breakfast room to housekeeping...& they all did a fine job! There's free coffee/tea & juice available in the smal lounge next to the reception & this was particularly welcome after a long,tiring day of sightseeing. The breakfast room was large and the breakfast buffet was excellent. The Mirabell Gardens are just opposite the hotel and bus tours in and around Salzburg depart from a station that is 3 minutes away. There are a fair number of cafes & patisseries in the immediate vicinity - always good to grab a bite while on the go.
