The Churchill is a pub with rooms, but so what? We stayed in a double superior room with fantastic views over Ambleside and the mountains. The room was recently refurbished and was light and modern.Flat screen TV, full size kettle and plenty of tea and coffee. It's a bit of a climb to the 4th floor, but well worth it for the view .Let's face it, if you are any sort of walker, a few stairs shouldn't put you off.! I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you have trouble climbing stairs though. Excellent location right in the middle of Ambleside and free parking too.The car park is a squeeze, but the staff are more than willing to shuffle cars around for you. Parking would cost you around?6.00 per day in the pay and display It is a modern type sports pub, but we didn't witness any excessive noise Excellent breakfast too!

This is without doubt the rudest and most offhand place I have ever stayed at: and the rudeness extends from the owners downwards. Payment is demanded upfront - which I deplore - (no doubt because of past experience of disgruntled guests refusing to pay in full afterwards). When I objected to this, I was told in no uncertain terms "Well you're not staying here then!" - no "Sorry" or other polite explanations...and since I was attending a conference, I had no choice but to pay - though I registered my displeasure at the young server's attitiude. Breakfast only starts at 8.30 - very late for a suposed "luxury hotel" and when I queried this at 7.55 the first morning, and asked if they could manage something, since I had meetings starting at 9.00am, I was met with the incredible response from the owner: "You're not the only one who's busy" (!) She then effectively accused me of lying, when I said that no-one had informed me on check-in that breakfast started so late - viz: "If I find that you're wrong, when I tell my stafff off for not informing you, I won't be very pleased" (!) She then said that I was "A very rude man" for insisting on getting service so early... The hotel car park is ludicrously small and cars are constantly being blocked in. And the bars are rowdy - it is a PUB and not a HOTEL. BE WARNED: NEVER STAY AT THE CHURCHILL AND TELL ALL YOUR BUSINESS CONTACTS AND FRIENDS THE SAME.
