Just got back from a long weekend in York for a wedding and stayed at the Ramada Encore.
Location :- Great Location, right in the centre of york so great for getting around, whilst everything is within walking distance. So location is superb in this aspect of the hotel. Minster is about 10 mins walk away and shops probley 3 or 4 mins. So perfect Marks here.
Check In ; Very quick and very efficient check in and staff were fabulous and very helpful in being able to direct you to the nearest car park.
Rooms : The rooms are very bare and basic but very smart. The effect is quite pleasing as not over done. The bed was comfortable and clean and in general the room was bright airy and very clean. The bathroom again was very clean and the shower is a walk in shower which had excellent water power. The hotel supplies nice big fluffy towels and a coconut type of shower/wash gel if you don't happen to take your own cleaning items. In our room which overlooked the main road Micklegate there is also a tea tray so you can make a cup of tea/coffee upon arrival. The room also had air con which was good as this meant we could keep the window closed and keep the noise out from the road.
Breakfast : The breakfast was included in our room rate, you could pay extra for the cooked breafast. Or just take the one included, which was OK. It consisted of a help yourself buffet in general all teas/coffees and fruit juices, a selection of cereals, fruit, toast, rolls cheese and various spreads and danish pastries and rolls, also fruit basket and yoghurts. So all in all there is something for everyone - All the foods were fresh and refilled when the baskets became empty.
Bar / Lobby : In general very airy and spacious but nothing special again very clean but a little echoey - but bearing in mind York has so many nice bars why would you stay in the Hotel Bar to drink or eat ? OK for a nightcap though.
Overall Opinion:- I liked the hotel it was clean and well kept, staff were very friendly and comfort wise the place was great. However the down side for us was the excessive noise coming from outside. We stayed Friday and Saturday night and admittedly Friday did not seem too bad, however Saturday evening was horrendous, It seems the hotel has a policy of allowing hen and stag parties to stay in the hotel, which I have no problem with however when you are trying to get to sleep at 1am in the morning and all you can hear is screaming banshees coming from outside even with the windows closed it is off putting. The final straw came when I had finally got off to sleep to then be woken by a bunch of yelping women at 4am coming from the room next door. I was going to ring reception and complain, but my husband managed to sleep through it and I thought if I rang I would wake him up. So If you go to the hotel on a weekend be prepared for Stag and Hen Party Central and take a good pair of ear plugs - you will need them !!!!!!!!
