Location

Kaprun is a picturesque little village in the middle of the famous "Hohen Tauern" National Park and is situated at the foot of the Kitzsteinhorn-glacier in a sunny valley basin. This gives guests guaranteed snow and fantastic scenery. Embedded in the marvellous mountain scenery of the region with its 3000 inhabitants it belongs to one of the best addresses in European tourism.

The valley, which is surrounded by gigantic mountains, has a lot of scenic charm. In Autumn a lot of ski and snowboard fans come to practise their hobby. In winter the "Europa-Sportregion" offers 130 km of slopes and 56 cable cars and lifts in the two ski areas of Kaprun and Zell am See.

The are is not only for active guests but also for cultural enthusiasts, recreation seekers or visitors, who for example want to visit the world-famous water reservoirs at the power station "Tauernkraftwerke Kaprun" or other attractions, including the High Alpine Road to the Großglockner.

I have just returned from a week at the Tauernhof, Kaprun. The hotel is central to the town (which is very small). I stayed on a half-board basis; the food was fresh, of a good standard and lots of it!! The pool is well kept but small, along with a Spa including saunas and massage treatments. I had a junior suite which was a good size, but a little bit dusty. Overall the hotel was of a good standard, the staff were very helpful and pleasant. A great place to stay for a late ski break.

The hotel is nice, rooms are of varing standards but are certainly adequate. Great boot room with heated racks and secure entry. Food is very good and plenty of choice. My only area of complaint is the staff they are a very miserable lot. Unhelpful to say the least. Our party of 20 people arrived and I can safely say I had the worst check in experience of my life. I was travelling with a 11 month old baby to be told there was no travel cot and she could be of no more help as it was not her fault. It may well not have been her fault (it was travel companies) but is it not her job to help me or at the least apologise and help find a solution? That rest of staff were as unhelpful unfriendly and pretty miserable for the rest of the week. i have travelled to Austria many times and have always found the staff to be extremely accommodating so this was dissapointing and I know the feeling was mutual within our group. Kaprun is a nice town, skiing limited although the glacier is only 10 mins by bus - skiing here is quite extensive and lots of restaurants etc. Zell am See is a beautiful town and not like any other ski town I have been to. There are lovely boutique coffee shops and great choice of shopping. The views are spectacular, the lake is stunning anytime of year would be great to visit. Great friendly family run restaurants on the mountain. Flannagins is a great night out we had a great time there on St Patricks night!!
